There is no player on team that can hit outside runs as well as he can on jets.   He is getting first downs where others wouldn't.  Two of those a game makes a difference to a team.

Unless he learns to play WR, his involvement in the offense will be extremely predictable.

NFL absolutely has room for gadget players. But gadget players typically offer ST value.

He definitely has to develop but even if he is predictable he can be used as a decoy. Look at how often teams that used jet sweep ran the option at Macl the last two years here. Or if he gets involved with screens or flatsnthat can open passing lanes for the X or z to slant in.

Getsy will have to manufacture touches for him but should also be able to use him to manufacture touches for other people.

He can't reliably make the hard catches.  He can catch.   Put 2 good WRs on a field with him and it will look a lot different.   He can stretch a field because he can get behind you.

He is not a punt returner.  He can be a good KR, gunner, and 4th WR.

He can line up in backfield as well like Patterson.

Velus is another guy who should benefit from Claypool arriving...having another big & physical deep threat should hopefully back defences up a little more and allow us to be creative in getting the ball in his hands...again he isn't a traditional WR and it is up to this staff to figure out how to use him best because the talent is clear.

Like in recruiting and they label guy ATH because he doesn't have a true position.

Velus is an elite athlete.  You have to figure out ways to unlock what he can do to help your team.  We all want guys who can do anything everything well.  Those are rare.

Bottom line is even if he can't catch reliably you can't ignore him.  The thing DC's fear more than anything is sudden scores.

That is what Velus can do.  That is what Harry, St. Brown, etc cannot.
