He was open enough to dump if off and see what happens. It might have been a five yard loss, but so is the sack and the Harris is more likely to break a tackle than Jones is. High school offense. No motion, no creative concepts, trickery, jet sweeps. They have no idea what they are doing on the offensive side of the ball.
