A lot of quick passes though too.

Yeah, not much of a chance when it's that quick. Lot of quick dump offs for Gabbert which is why he did decent last week. Gotta eliminate that as best as we can.

How do you figure?

He is top 10 in the league on 1st down.

3rd and long is where he struggles. Gotta give him a chance to move the ball and get in a rhythm. I'm not saying he needs to air it out, but run/run/pass isn't the way either.

Abandoning the run on the first possession? Nah. No thanks.

Don't need to panic and start down the road to 30+ tosses a game Bortles so soon.

The threat of run is a big part of why Bortles 1st down numbers look aight.

Who said abandoning the run?

Has nothing to do with panicing. It's allowing Blake to get in a rhythm/move the ball a bit to start the game.

If we don't establish the run early, we'll be abandoning it soon enough.

When your whole offensive game plan is built off the threat of the run, you can't just come out and sling it around from the get go. Gotta slog through and get that ground and pound churning.

It has nothing to do with abandoning the run. It's passing the ball once before 3rd down on the first drive to start the game (which we never do and could surprise the defense since they know the run is coming).

What we just did to Dede would have been exactly what I would have liked to see to start the drive. Has nothing to do with abandoning the run (because we wouldn't, we know how Doug and co. want to play, only way we do is if come 3rd quarter we do absolutely nothing and get no push inspiring zero confidence). We aren't going away from it in the 1st quarter with Blake behind center.
