Commanders to release CB William Jackson III if not traded by deadline

Ooof, back injury? That’s not good for any position, let alone DB.

With the salary, I’d need a significant medical work up before I’d feel comfortable giving up any sort of valuable compensation.

Supposedly it's getting better

But also probably the reason he will just be cut and not traded.

Any chance that he was going to be traded is now gone. Tipping your hand like this is extremely foolish and a very "Washington" tradition.

The things that make it to the press year after year is insane. Literally, wait 8 hours and release him if you cant trade him. Telling people what you plan to do means they can wait till you drop him and sign him free of charge.

I've wanted to add Jackson since the initial grumblings, but I'm out on trading for him if he's got a back injury.

I really think it's like K. Toney's situation with the Giants. Technically he isn't 100% and thus can be put on the injury report, but he isn't playing because he doesn't want to be here, and they finally have to admit they tried to shove a square peg into a round hole.

I remember the Commanders signed him around the time the Giants signed Adoree Jackson and I debated hard with a few Commanders fans about who got the better corner. Feel very validated about that now.

Fit-wise you guys definitely got the better end. Talent-wise I would still go to bat for WJ3. Jack Del Rio's infamous 8-12 yard soft zone coverage wasn't the best fit for the "best man-to-man corner available" during last years FA period.

Whoever gets him should try to maximize his man coverage skills because he is pretty good there.
