Greenland

Motivation:

just-win-baby-al-davis.gif

Offensive Formations: 4WR/1RB (35%), 3WR/1TE/1RB (25%), 2WR/2TE/1RB (20%), 5WR (10%), 5 Wide - using TE (10%)

Offensive Tempo: Normal tempo this week

Designed Playcall Distribution: 40% run, 35% pass, 20% playaction, 5% RPO/screens

Running game: We are going to be looking to get Saquon Barkley in space this week and plan to do this with heavy outside spread formations.  We want our WR's to be out at the numbers or beyond (stacked when possible), we feel the frontline of Lancaster is not built to be spread out and deal with speed and agility.  We want to use the slot receivers and tight ends to come down and set the edge by walling off the linebackers and edge guys.  We will use toss and pitch runs to get Barkley on the edge quickly.  We also want to use a number of counter run schemes to allow Barkley to use his speed and agility to get outside with the flow going the opposite direction.  When in 2TE sets we will be using one of the TE's as an H back.

CounterLaneVsBama.gif

Look for Barkley to have a heavy load this game with him coming off the field for rest 20% of the snaps when we go 5WR or 5 Wide.  IRL Barkley has played 80% or more of the snaps in every game this season, including 2 games over 90%.  We feel keeping him around 80% will keep him fresh and good to go when his number is called.  We do not need a second back this week as we are using about 20% 5WR or 5 Wide, which will give Barkley rest and allow us to use some quick screens, end arounds, sweeps and touch passes as an extension of our run game.

Passing game:  This week we want to force decisions by the Lancaster's DB's and then react to them using our newly implemented Deep Choice passing game.  The Deep Choice passing game is used to great success by Tennessee in college and will work well with our stud receivers and Tua making the passes.  Our version of the deep choice will have stacked receivers when possible and give the over and under receivers multiple routes to run based off of the play of the DB, not the coverage.  A more detailed description of this offense can be found here

https://www.google.com/amp/s/theathletic.com/3756306/2022/11/03/tennessee-vols-heupel-hooker-scheme-georgia/%3famp=1

One of the key differences for our Deep Choice passing game is that the opposite field receivers will not be taking plays off.  They will be the 3rd and 4th options on the play.  We also will be using Barkley a lot more in the passing game by using him to fill in behind the stacked receivers to the flat and wheel routes trying to take advantage of his speed against the LB's.

RPO/Screens: RPO's and screens will be up to Tua to check into based on his presnap reads.  We want the play checked into an RPO when the LB's and S's are moving into the box and screen's when it looks like big pressure is coming.   The screen check downs will be WR screens mostly with an occasional RB screen.

First series of the game: we want to establish the run with Barkley

Defense Base Formation: 4-3

Pass 😧  This week we want to play a heavy dose of Cover 1 Robber out of 4-3 and Nickle evenly and use the Robber as a spy on Hurts.  The key to the game is going to be shutting down Hurts in the run game and making him vulnerable in the passing game.  The spy will help contain him but to make him also vulnerable in the passing game we want line up spread wide on clear passing downs and bring both the down lineman against their RT.  We want to flush Hurts to the left where ilhe is generally a weaker passer.  This is where the spy and left side contain will meet him in some angry collisions.  When not playing Cover 1 Robber we want to use our Cover 6 zone and Cover 3 Man Hybrid more than the other man coverages as it forces very accurate throws under pressure from our d line that we don't feel Hurts can make consistently

Run Defense:  We are focusing on getting up field to disrupt things before their running backs get moving.  Causing missed assignments and blocks is also key so we will working our stunts and twists into the running game as well

Defensive rotation and formations notes:  we have DT, edge, LB, and DB depth to rotate in and keep everyone well rested.  As for formations, even though our base and dominant formation will be 4-3/Nickle we do want to sprinkle in some 4-4 formations when possible to help slow down the run when warranted.

Lancaster Offensive Strategy:

We come into this week planning to run our standard type of offensive game not only because it plays into our strengths, but also because this week it plays into our opponent’s weaknesses. We want to go fairly run heavy early on behind our mauler OL and use success in the run game to open up the passing game. This week we want to take more deep shots than usual as well because Greenland has only one healthy safety on their roster right now.

In the run game, we are going to start Miles Sanders again but as always will mix in AJ Dillon and Tyler Allgeier plenty throughout the game. They will see a rough split of 40% Sanders, 35% Dillon, 25% Allgeier snap-wise. If Greenland plays either Jason Pierre-Paul or Robert Quinn as a 3-4 DE, then we will want to specifically target that matchup in the run game and go to that area. In general we want to attack the interior of their defense in the running game as our offensive line is strongest on the interior and we think we can get a good amount of push against their defensive line. We will of course attack the edges as well, particularly with Miles Sanders, so that we can get our guards pulling to the outside. And of course we will have some designed QB runs and read-option looks with Jalen Hurts to force their defense to commit a guy to him in the running game.

Early on in the game while we’re establishing the run, our passing game will consist of the usual quick throws and RPOs so that Hurts can get the ball out fast. As the game goes on however, we want to open up the passing game more and spread the ball around. The Greenland secondary is going to be hurting this week with only one healthy safety, Nasir Adderley. So as we progress into the game we are going to be taking more deep shots down the field. When we take deep shots, very often we’ll leave our RB in to help protect the QB. We also are going to give Hurts the green light to run if nothing is available. We want to force the defense to commit an extra defender to him when we pass to further open up our receivers. If they don’t commit someone to him, we want to make them pay. We also want to mix in looks with Quez Watkins and Greg Dulcich to utilize their downfield ability, whether we bring them in in place of guys in the starting lineup or use 4 WR or 2 TE looks. We want to use their athleticism and speed to stretch out the defense.

Lancaster Defensive Strategy:

This is a Greenland offense with a bunch of weapons. That makes this a tough team to defend, but we think we have the pieces to do it. In particular we want to try to rattle Tua Tagovailoa by throwing blitzes and different looks at him in the passing game. This game we are going to mainly play with a 2 high man defense where our 2 safeties can show the same look pre-snap but do very different things once the ball is snapped. We want to make this game as difficult as possible on Tagovailoa.

One of our biggest advantages on defense is our ability to play man defense without necessarily needing to give extra help to our corners. In this game, Jaire Alexander will cover Stefon Diggs, Jalen Ramsey will cover CeeDee Lamb, and Dane Jackson will cover Chris Godwin. Malcolm Rodriguez will cover Tyler Higbee and Fred Warner will cover Saquon Barkley and be tasked with shutting him down. Our two high safeties this game will be Minkah Fitzpatrick and Darrick Forrest. On obvious running downs, Johnathan Abram will come in for Forrest and play in the box. Otherwise, the role that Fitzpatrick and Forrest will play will vary. We want to use them to cause confusion for Tagovailoa. On any given play, either one or both of them could blitz, play two-high, come up into the box, or take over responsibilities for Rodriguez or Warner to allow them to blitz. This will help prevent Tagovailoa from making pre-snap reads and hopefully force him to hold onto the ball a little longer.

Saquon Barkley is playing extremely well this year so our defensive line’s goal is to stop him as much as possible. All of our starting defensive linemen are good run defenders so we want them to focus on that as much as possible. We want our pressure to come from coverage snaps and blitzes. As always we want to have a heavy rotation on our defensive line to keep our guys fresh, giving them another advantage.

Once again made an injury error when it comes to my opponent. Justin Simmons is still listed on IR in the workbook and I didn't think to double check that. Poyer is still out there putting Adderley out there and we still want to test him. Just wanted to clear up my mistake.

I really like what Greenland game planned for here, and I just cannot see Lancaster getting enough pressure on Tua to stop him from making plays deep. I'd like to see Greenland use Devin Lloyd as a combo backer/rusher, as he's at his best doing that and he's been one of Jacksonville's best players every time I've seen them play.

I'm going to disagree with Blue here.  First  on the Lloyd part.  While i get what he's saying, Greenland from what I've seen isn't a heavy blitz team and Lloyd has really struggled in coverage but he is a heat sinking missile in the run game.  Also this deep option game requires the QB to have time to throw the football and while the Lancaster front four isn't studly, they are in fact blitzing a ton, and that should pay dividends here as the right side of the Greenland line is struggling, which is more important with the being Tua's blind side.  I think that rush gets home while the corners mostly hold up enough.  I think Greenland does a good job bottling up Hurts but i think they get gashed some in the run game

I like Lancaster' to actually hold their own in this game I think that Greenland is going to score some points for sure with their offense but at the same time I think that Lancasters defense is good enough to get home on the blitz.

I don't like Lloyd and coverage at all and overall I think Greenland's ability to c9ver isnt as good as it could be if healthy

17-14 Lancaster

These teams match up really really well against each other, it's crazy. I like the idea of getting Barkley attacking the edges, and I like Lancaster blitzing. In my mind this game is going to be about who can force the opposing QB into a bigger mistake in this game, and to me that will come from the better defensive line in Greenland. Insanely close match up and both game plans were really good.
