Week 11 GDT: Texans vs Redskins

Turned this game off in the 2nd quarter, couldn't watch anymore. From what I saw, a lot of this one's on Kenyon Green. That man was getting his *** whooped consistently, but yea, I've reached the point where if we replace Mills I'll be totally fine with it. Again, though, I really don't think a rookie QB would be doing a whole lot better.

I'd really prefer not to go QB with either of our first round picks. I've seen so many first overall pick QBs, top ten pick QBs not work out. We really can't afford to take the risk in the first round imo. We need foundational pieces all over the roster. I want at LEAST one DL with our two first round picks (possibly DL with both), and I think we'd be wise to add a freakish WR to help either Mills or whoever his replacement is.

I'm looking at QBs who might be available in the 2nd/3rd round who we can replace Mills with when the time comes (probably within the first month of next season). I really, really really like KJ Jefferson.

Rd1: Jalen Carter

Rd1: Quentin Johnston

Rd2: KJ Jefferson

I would love this.

Serious question: How many non-First Round Pick QBs actually work out? If you really do the math on it, you’ll see the failure rate on non-FRP QBs is significantly higher than the failure rate of FRP/top 10 QBs. The ceiling is higher on the FRPs as well - when you hit on a FRP, you usually end up with a Josh Allen or Pat Mahomes, someone who elevates the play out of everyone around them. Even under the best circumstances outside of the 1st, when you hit on a guy outside the first, you top out at guys like Kirk Cousins or Dak Prescott - good QBs who need a lot of support to be good QBs.

On that note - the concept of building around a QB is flawed because we don’t assume non-QBs bust in the first pretty frequently; Sure, a non-FRP QB could succeed with a stud WR drafted top 5-10; What happens if that stud WR turns out to be a Corey Davis or a John Ross, just a complete failure at the position? Then, you’ve wasted a pick on a skill position as well as put a less talented QB in a less optimal spot - one that will put that QB on the fast track to failure. You’re right back to where you are now, a guy who needs a lot of support playing with a lack of support.

Ideally, you find a QB who makes other positions better. And there’s a guy like that currently at Alabama. This isn’t an Alabama team like years past with multiple first round picks at OL and WR - this ‘Bama team had to hit the transfer portal pretty hard to find their top WR and RB, there was no guy just waiting to take over as usual. Yet, Bryce Young is still having a great season.

Don’t look a gifted horse in the mouth on this one.

It’s simple, if Cesario sees a QB he thinks is legit in the first round, he takes him, and if not, maybe trades down to get ammo to maneuver next year. The QB he takes during the next year or so will define his career (and the length of it)

Watching Russel Wilson play this season should put the fear of god into anybody who thinks we should go after a free agent QB

You know what, I'm in. Sign me up. Bryce Young. If nothing else, at least I could possibly watch a Texans game past the 3rd quarter and have some hope. He reminds me a bit of "the player," hopefully no weird **** we've got to worry about lol. I'm joking. But, really the one concern I have is that he's just not a large enough human. When I imagine Young as a bust, I'm imagining Green finally learning to pass block, and then the guy just jumps and either bats down the pass or causes him to start scrambling, and then him just running himself into a bunch of sacks. This would be especially possible, imo, if there's no freaky pass catcher to bail him out when things get sketchy.

I acknowledge the upside. Natural playmaker, accurate passer, dangerous runner. Winner. I suppose it's as good a gamble as we can take. I won't be mad if we take a 6'7" 290 pound freak though.

As long as we don’t screw up 1.1, in good with it…

I dont see any way we can screw it up.  We basically have to win 2 more games. I dont see that happening with the remaining schedule.  If Mills is done as starting QB that basically mean we definitely drafting one next year regardless of how Allen finishes the season.
