Cancun

Offense:

This week, we’re using the run on early downs to set up the deep passing game against a stingy Raleigh secondary. On 1st down, we’re aiming for a 70% rushing rate, then dial it down to a 50% rush rate on 2nd down and emphasizing the passing game (70%+) on third down. On 2nd down in particular, we will heavily utilize play action to keep the defense on their toes as to whether it’s a run or a pass. Although Aaron Jones gets the start, Rhamondre Stevenson will get a lot of early down work and 1st and 2nd down runs will go primarily up the middle, looking to wear out the defensive interior. When Aaron Jones is in the game, we will have a more balanced mix of inside and outside rushing.

In the passing game, we want to emphasize the slot, moving Olave inside frequently to force Raleigh to either play Peters or Slay out of position, or line up Bradley Roby (or some other poor sonuvabitch) against our best receiver. Zacchaeus and Moore will rotate in at the slot and the other outside position, running downfield routes frequently to take advantage of their speed against what is likely to be single coverage. Sutton (who is still top-20 in receiving yardage) will run corner and post routes to take advantage of his size and length against whichever corner is tasked with covering him, with Mahomes giving him jump balls if we have him in single coverage. Dalton Schultz will work the middle of the field and be our primary target in the redzone. The running backs will primarily be safe checkdown options this week, with a few screen plays thrown in as well since we don’t really respect the Raleigh linebackers to make plays against our backs in space, especially with our big offensive line out in front blocking for them.

Defense:

This week we get BDL Superstar Tre'Davious White back, along with Rousseau and Marcus Williams.

Happy Tom Cruise GIF

We get a Raleigh team, led by Kyler Murray (that's the only team he could be accused of being a leader on) and Christian McCaffrey, to go with a nice weapon in Mark Andrews.

We believe that we can get away with mixing coverages between off man, press man, Cover 2, and Cover 4, sticking to using our corners as run support/in the flat passing game against McCaffrey, and blanketing Andrews in the middle of the field. The ability to disguise press man and Cover 2 along with off man and Cover 4 will be a major advantage, while maintaining a 2 safety high look to prevent Andrews from beating us down the middle. When we utilize man, we will either spy or blitz Kyler Murray from the inside, not allowing his legs to beat us, while maintaining heavy contain with our DE.

We also like simulated pressure with an "up" look but then zone drop to confuse Murray:

When we are in Cover 2, we will play a Tampa style, having our MLB drop to the middle to Cover Andrews underneath, with a two safety top cap, forcing tight seam throws, as the corners will press and deny the flat passes.

We intend to focus intently on denying McCaffrey in the running and passing game, as well as Andrews. We believe that with a healthy White back, that our corners vs. their receivers will be an advantageous matchup, with our heavy rotational DL preventing much of any success in the A/B gaps, and with our corners in support early in Cover 2/press man, we will utilize their ability to make tackles on the outside.

Week 10

OFFENSIVE GAME PLAN

Ball control. Go on long drives, shorten the game and keep Cancun offense off the field

Our best chance to win is to try and grind out this game. Use our strong RB room and O-line to our advantage. Commit to the run and an RPO pass game and protect the football. Running 2 RB’s most of the game with the flexibility of McCaffrey as a runner and receiver can keep Cancun honest. We can come out in a heavy look and if they load up to stop the run we can flex out McCaffrey and force them to adjust. We want to do a lot of outside stretches, counters and pitches, our WR’s are good blockers and can create lots of space on the outside. In the pass game, RPO’s, and play action will be the focus. Off RPOs, WR screens (including McCaffrey lined up at WR) will be a major focus. We think we can move the ball with some quick hitters outside. Slants and underneath crossers to our sure handed vet receivers Landry, Woods andMcKenzie . We’d then run Andrews deeper in the middle of the field and take our shots there. Tutu Atwell will also be used on deep shots as well.

DEFENSIVE GAME PLAN

Attacking 4-3/Cover 2

To compliment our ball control offense, we want a high pressure defense to force Cancun into mistakes and not allow them to go on long drives. We want to attack their offensive line, specifically the right side. We want to force Mahomes to go short and rally and tackle. A heavy d-line rotation will keep us able to chase Mahomes all day. Once again this shortens the game. We think Slay and Peters can contain Sutton and Olave. With a pair of ball hawks at CB we think we can grab a turnover or 2 that can flip the momentum of the game.

Went Cancun. I think the defense matches up very well with Raleigh. Also, the Raleigh receiving weapons in Landry and Woods are so limited in their explosiveness I just don't see them moving the ball through the air very effectively.
