If I recall correctly, he kept the scouting department in tact until after the draft and he then started to mold it the way he wanted. So I guess it isn't a bad thing, I mean 2016 was one of his best drafts. Senior Bowl is Feb. 4th. It appears there will be time. Just gotta get it done in the next couple weeks I feel. Not too much longer after the season ends. Yeah, my point was more that if we end up waiting until after the Super Bowl to hire a GM like Amy said we might we'll be SOL for the Senior Bowl and really behind on pretty much everything else draft related. Hiring the GM in a timely matter in January isn't a huge deal. Teams do that every year, but if she's really serious about potentially waiting to interview candidates that have teams in the Super Bowl it's going to put us in a weird position for things like the Senior Bowl and getting prepared for the combine.
Daniel
I worry less about the Senior Bowl and more about getting the department in order and everything on the same page with re-signings. Anyone we sign from another team likely either was at the Senior Bowl themselves, or had someone under them there when they were with other teams. Not like the person we bring in comes in with no knowledge of prospects until we hire them.

I think Rick Smith would be perfect. Sturdy GM. Some history with Vrabel. Wouldn't be a yes man. Has history of picking some good picks. DE J.J. I know change is exciting and I don't want change just because. However, I would love a fresh set of eyes rather than the guys that had hand in picking some of our worst drafts. It is scary also to think how much we'd love a change and some freshness; just how quick it could go south. Jason McCourty just talked about his 11 years here never earned a playoff berth. That would be crazy to go through that again.
Daniel
Internal hires for GM are hard to judge. I mean, we can't pretend like under JRob we had below average drafts. It was really just the multiple misses on first round picks that screwed us up now. I mean, if the guy under didn't want Caleb Farley or Isaiah Wilson and wanted to go in a different direction with some other players that worked out, that by itself is a big difference. You replace Wilson and Farley with just like, the next player drafted that worked out halfway well and the team is in a completely different situation for the talent pool. And that's not getting into Dennis Daley or other recent free agent misses. Edited January 6 by Daniel

I would rather take the time to get it right. This is someone we want to be in the building a long time. Anyone we hire is going to be ultra focused on these events anyways, whether they are with us or not at the time. Change isn't always going to guarantee success, but I ultimately think change was needed. There is no telling that we could possibly also continue to spiral into a rut of bad years even with Jrob. We have seen some serious critical mistakes from him lately. And we are paying for it. I was bored the other night and watched the 2019 playoff win against the Pats. And boy how sad does it look to see what we field on offense these days compared to that. And that wasn't even some juggernaut offense. But it least had some bones and structure. It shows week after week on the scoreboard that we totally mishandled that side of the ball since that run.

Glad to see that she made the list. Not only do I think it'd be cool to be the first team in NFL history to hire a female GM and be a trailblazer in that regard, but I'd really love to start integrating more analytics into our front office and the way that we do things. Analytics obviously isn't the end all be all, but it'd be nice to have a GM that wanted to use it as a tool for us going forward and get our team into the 21st century a bit.

KingTitan
Report to her. Quote Strunk said it's important for the new general manager to work hand in hand with Vrabel while building the roster. "The GM and the head coach are going to report to me, but as an organization we expect a culture of working together," Strunk said. "I think collaboration amongst all of us is going to be important to take that next step in the goal of winning a championship. The two of them are going to report to me, but the two of them are going to be working together to get us the best team we can possibly have."
