How does a Prime Ben Roethlisberger compare to current QB’s?

This thread was inspired by the Gurley Thread and where he compared to current RBs. Let’s say Big Ben was in his prime right now where would he rank among current starting QBs?

It's an interesting question because it's a bit tricky to determine when Ben's prime was. When he was younger he was a beast who could make incredible plays by shedding defensive lineman and improvising, but when he was older he lost his athleticism but became a very savvy passer whose pre-snap game was very sharp.

I'd be curious to hear from Steelers fans when they think his prime was. I feared early-to-mid-thirties Ben more than Ben when he went to and won Super Bowls.

This year Mahomes hasn't even been that impressive tbqh.

Ben had never been all that close to what we’ve seen from Mahomes… and the only case you could attempt to make would involve cherry picking his one best season out of all the years he played. Mahomes is projecting to be over 5000 yards and 40 touchdowns this season not accounting for a 17th game. He’s likely league MVP… but “not that impressive” to you? In a year where he lost Tyreek Hill? Some sort of bias here?

Yeah man you know me, regular Mahomes hater...lol if you want to put Mahomes #1 and Ben #2 fine but my point is that Ben, who was a regular maybe top-5 QB throughout his career, would be easily near the top this year because of how lackluster the QB play has been.

Not really. He was never threatening Brady, Brees, Peyton, Rodgers territory when they were all at full-go. Early years he was competing with Rivers, Eli, Ryan, and Romo. Later on you had Luck, Ryan still, Rivers still, Stafford, Russ, Mahomes, etc. Ben had a couple sprinkles where was a top QB but for the majority of his career he was closer to 10 than 5.

The Mahomes fatigue is real. He’s going to go for 5,000 and 40, again, and people will go “meh”. If Herbert or Allen or Lamar did that people would go nuts.
