Probably his cap charge even though it was minimal (roughly $220k) & they didn't sign anybody immediately. Prior to his release they were around $50k left in their cap. Now they're 31st ($270k) in available cap versus 32nd (Miami) $150k. Signed after the 1st game of the season so his balance for the remaining games came off the books. I don't know how many guy's they've signed after the 1st game they could've waived but I guess the Hawks thought he was the guy least needed.
