Will The 49ers be able to keep Demeco?

There's only two open positions right now. And I don't really see too many more HCs getting fired.

Kingsbury is probably gone.... but after that?

Most of the obvious choices are all guys in their first year.

Defensive HCs aren't really a hot item right now and we all know the deal with the NFL hiring black head coaches.

49ers just might luck out.

Hard to say because every year there are a bunch of "well, maybe" guy that could get fired. 2 open spots as is (Car, Indy). Then all of these are on the board:

Bowles should almost certainly be gone.

Hackett is toast, I have to imagine.

Dennis Allen should be gone.

If the Cowboys **** the bed in the playoffs again, McCarthy is toast.

Lovie Smith could be fired.

Kliff I think probably sticks around, but keep an eye on Stefanski.

On average there are 6-7 coaching vacancies per year. If there are that many this year, he's gone. I think he's definitely in the top 5 for people getting jobs.

There are always a couple surprise firings. We know Carolina will be looking as will Indy. I suspect the Saints move away from Allen, you potentially have the Cards moving on from Kingsbury, McVay could retire, Denver could move on from Hackett, if the Chargers miss the playoffs Staley could be a surprise firing, who knows what Houston does with Lovie.

There is a great chance he is gone. You figure Peyton is a possible trade candidate if he doesnt return to NO, which has been rumored. The Colts are reportedly gonna try Harbaugh. However, Kyle does a good job of finding coaches. He did it with Saleh and he can do it again. Fangio does not seem like a fit to me unless he is willing to adjust his scheme to a 4-3 from a 3-4. The overhaul would be significant.

I was thinking this a week ago. I expected him to be gone 100%, but not sure how many vacancies are going to be open and it does seem like offensive minded candidates are the hotter names out there.

that being said, I would say there is a 25% chance he returns and IF we win the SB, even lower than that.

Still think Washington is every chance to need a new HC. Can see Ryans taking both Jimmy's over there.

It's tough. Before last week, I think you could have made a reasonable case for Rivera being top 5 in coach of the year. He also does have one playoff appearance in his 3 years there, but it was his first year. That loss to the Giants was really brutal though...really cratered their playoff chances.

He's not a bad coach, he's just somewhat underwhelming. But he's being undermined by a bad QB situation

I think Jimmy G is going to NYJ. I personally think Ward is going to go wherever he can get the bag from.

Like a lot of have already mentioned, there’s going to be some strong possibilities for him this year, but the biggest caveat - it’s an offense driven league. I think even if he does get a HC position, which all signs point to yes, who is going to be his OC? I don’t know if there’s someone on (our) staff that’s possibly able to fill that role.

For us moving forward, I think Fangio is going to be his replacement or at least will be one of the first candidates brought in for a visit. I think he’ll be on our short list.

nah no way. Rivera is a good coach. and he's a stabilizing force that gives Washington some respectability.

and his defense is good. they just don't have a QB yet. rivera should be given the chance to find his guy this year

I won't be shocked if Ryans doesn't get a HC gig, I don't want to go all racial issues, but it seems like him being black will go against him for some reason, we have old white male owners who hire usually white coaches as the HC. Plus Ryans being a defensive guy seems to also e something against him, the league wants the next bright young offensive star/genius/mind/whatever you wanna call it.

Personally, I hope he stays 1 more year, but I also want him to get a HC gig, cause he deserves it, just hate the idea of losing any defensive coaches, who replaces Ryans? I know people bring up Vic Fangio, but I don't want to change the defensive scheme, but I do think he has 4-3 experience, so idk.

As for the jobs, don't be surprised if Dallas keeps McCarthy, or if anything they promote within(Dan Quinn) to HC.

This reminds me of a thread I made on here before the season started

The first part of this post is basically just a DeMeco Ryans love letter. That man is amazing. We lost McDaniel and Wes Welker etc etc but if I had to choose only one coordinator to stay, DeMeco is an easy choice for me.

I really hope we can get him to commit long term. Jed - pay this man like a HC. It probably wont happen because he is absolutely HC material and I think the league will eventually pry him away, but for the time being, this man is a grand chess master and I am imesurably excited that I get to see this man work on a weekly basis.

He is masterful in how he utilizes the pieces he has. The coverage combinations are superb and he has always had an incredible feel for the game of football. He was born to be a field general. His mind has always been his greatest asset.

Hopefully he understands the value of having nick bosa fred warner arik kinlaw ward ward etc and realizes CA is a great place to live and work, and that there is a lot of honor in being a DC on a SB caliber team. Feels unlikely though

This defense has some fukin dogs on it. This DL is going to EAT. (RIP DJJ) We FINALLY have DE depth!!

Corner has more talent than I can remember. We have three good LBs. Jimmie Ward is an all pro in my book.

A few years ago, this defense had sloppy and unorganized coverages. Guys like Jimmie and Fred focused on fixing that, being fundamentally sound in all areas and being sure tacklers.

I saw Fred change the way he tackles towards the end of the season. He tries to punch the ball damn near every time hes near the ballcarrier. Hes started to get a couple of those now that its a focus of his game. The one he forced in GB flipped the game.

We saw Jimmie ward finally get his hands on the ball. Takeaways are the final piece to both of their games and they know it.

This defense is going to HUNT people. This DL is SCARY and we are going to absolutely shut a lot of teams down

The schedule features a lot of tough QBs. I saw damn near every QB we play in 2019 have their worst game. In week 12 or 13 we were averaging 125 passing yards allowed per game. Thats just nuts. This defense has the potential to be even better than that team.

This defense is going to be so good it may make Kyle get conservative on the other side of the ball. The bulk passing stats may not be there for Lance because we may (hopefully!) have the lead a lot, and perhaps big leads means garbage yards/points for opposing offenses, so its unlikely given those two factors that this defense gets recognized statistically adjacent to teams like the 2000 ravens, but you better bet your a ss this defense is going to have a superbowl caliber season

I am still hopeful that DeMeco can get paid like a HC and decides that staying in the Bay Area with a stacked roster and being a DC while winning a ring or two is better than starting a rebuild with a bad franchise with poor ownership.

He should be very selective of his job. I am not sure HOU, IND, CAR, DEN etc are attractive landing spots.

  • 4 weeks later...

DeMeco has received requests from 4 teams to interview (denver, houston, carolina, arizona). He told HOU to take a hike, and I bet he does the same with ARI. I dont see him landing in Denver (possible though because they legitimately could offer 20m per year). Carolina is interesting though. Bad division, some nice pieces on D, a couple of talented guys on offense. They need a QB but I bet they could sign one if he goes there since he is very respected around the league. Who knows if he will want to work for Tepper though.

Additionally, this video made me feel a lot better about Fangio coming back. I knew we had moved away from the Seattle cover 3, but I did not realize how much of the Fangio 6 we run.

That is, assuming he does not go wherever sean payton goes, which is the current word on the street. Kyle and Fangio are very close though, who knows!

I didn't even know he got requests from Carolina and Arizona. I had only heard about Denver and Houston.

Those were announced today. No shot he ends up in Arizona. I wonder if he even interviews with anyone until our season is done. These interviews require a lot of prep work, not like you can just show up and hope to get the job.

Double edged sword for us, deep run may help us keep him but will make him harder to replace.
