How’d he do in that Super Bowl? I just think they push it all back. Why do they need a coach in place now anyway? It’s an unnecessary distraction. If they waited until post superbowl, everyone starts the off-season at the same time. No issue.

Forge
I'm pretty sure we actually did Kyle's fist interview before wild card weekend when Atlanta had a bye and then did the second after the NFC championship game (when he had two weeks to prepare for the game), so in truth it's not completely comparable. He may have had other interviews with other teams during the weeks in between, but I'm not sure

Blaming an offensive coordinator for blowing a 25 point lead well into the third quarter is just ridiculous.

I heard that Paton will not be involved in their round 2 interviews, which is very odd. Must mean that they will ask candidates if they have a GM in mind. I am not ready to lose Adam Peters and DeMeco at the same time. Peters worked for the Broncos before he came here, so going back there could make sense to some degree. Also - the fact he is taking on these four interviews probably means he does want to leave. So, it is when, not if. It does seem like he will get a job this cycle. We better have a plan in place. Sucks that our staff will undoubtedly get raided again.

This man has built a strong staff and does a good job preparing and promoting from the inside.

Gotta keep the train moving while the iron is hot. Did I metaphor right? Anyway, I'm not sure if we could lose Peters and Carthon in the same year. I have no idea who is good at what and how good with the front office stuff, but that just seems like a hard bridge to build, losing the two of the top three guys. All indications are he wants to remain in the Bay Area and he's going to be GM once Lynch gets promoted or moves on. I mean, money talks and we'll see, but he has an opportunity to take over a loaded team with SEVERAL high-level people on the roster and front office, here. The 49ers are better opportunity to build a dynasty than the Broncos are. On Ryans, I can't guess what's going on in his mind, but if it was me, I'd do all the interviews I wanted to feel out the situation in those locations before making any decision. I like to have as many facts as I can before making a decision even if my decision is to remain where I am. If I see dumpster fire after dumpster fire, I'm not leaving just for the money.

I thought I heard Lynch doing some interview basically saying Peters decided to sit out this cycle. It was my understanding that he'd be back regardless this year. As far as Ryans, he mentioned that he was ready to be a head coach so I do think that he jumps at a job this year if given an opportunity to be a HC.

I do agree that I think Ryans will be a HC this year or maybe even next year. It just seems like most of the openings this year is with franchises with deep dysfunction and aren't all that attractive. I just hope he doesn't jump at an opportunity just for the money, that's all.

Selfishly it'd be better if he left next year, not only for our defense, but also for our compensation.

This totally makes sense, and it is good to get experience with regards to the interview process. I read an article recently where he was quoted about needing to become a HC "for those who came before me". He referenced Bobby Turner as a guy who never got an opportunity to become a HC. He did not come out and say it explicitly, but I took the statement to mean that he essentially believes he has a duty to become a HC in part because of his race. Which is understandable. Additionally, it is rare for minorities to get second chances as HCs, so he needs to ensure he is successful quickly, which means choosing the correct destination.

And after what Leftwich just went through, it's obvious that the "hot names" don't stay hot forever. Odds are that if he stays in SF for another year he will be just as desired around the league next year.. but anything can happen. If he feels comfortable with one of these situations and gets an offer, he should take it Edited January 20, 2023 by adamq
