Neither are total busts; Carr was a decade long starter with a few ProxBowl appearances and Wentz would have won MVP in 2017 if he didn't get injured. However, neither really took their game to the next level and seemed to progressively regress.

Carr was a 2nd rounder. Wentz was 2nd OVERALL. I'd say Carson.

The 2nd round guy who started nine consecutive years for the same team vs. the 2nd pick who will be looking at his fourth team in 4 years after the season seems like any easy call.

Yeah, this is super easy. Wentz is definitely a bigger busy. Not even close.

Carr has actually been good for his draft slot. I'm not even sure how he'd be labeled a disappointment.

2nd round QBs from 2000 - 2020:

  • Jalen Hurts
  • Drew Lock
  • DeShone Kizer
  • Christian Hackenburg
  • Derek Carr
  • Jimmy G
  • Geno Smith
  • Brock Osweiler
  • Andy Dalton
  • Colin Kaepernick
  • Jimmy Clausen
  • Pat White
  • Brian Brohm
  • Chad Henne
  • Kevin Kolb
  • John Beck
  • Drew Stanton
  • Kellen Clemens
  • Tavaris Jackson
  • Drew Brees
  • Quincy Carter
  • Marques Tuiasosopo

Carr is a success in that regard.

Carr is a success

Decided to rank these(not doing Hurts because it's hard to rank him fairly this early)
HOFer:
- Brees
Franchise QBs in their prime:
- Carr
- Dalton
Made it to a Super Bowl once:
- Jimmy G
- Kaepernick
Late bloomer?:
- Geno
Career backups/bottom 10 starters with a ring as a backup:
- Henne
- Jackson
- Osweiler
Career backups/bottom 10 starters without a ring:
- Carter
- Lock
- Kolb
- Stanton
- Clemens
Terrible:
- Clausen
- Kizer
- Beck
Barely even saw the field:
- Tuiasosopo
- Pat White
- Bohm
Never even saw the field:
- Hackenberg

So Carr, even if you take Dalton over him, is still a top 3 second round QB since 2000. When Carter/Lock/Kolb is the firm median of what to expect from a 2nd round QB, and Geno Smith, with his one good season this year, has already had a more successful career than around 75% of the other guys here, I'd say that drafting someone like Carr is very far from a disappointment

Carr has been a "success", but he has really teased Raiders fans after 2015 and 2016. This is what sums up Carr to Raiders fans:
