What are some things the Packers could/should do in the 2023 off season?

Two things that should happen, but won't:

(1) Barry fired

(2) Rodgers retired

Everything else is moot.

I'd be happy with either one of those two gone but I have a sinking feeling they're both back...

I really wish they'd blow it up; a reshuffled version of this squad is a waste of a year.

Feels like this was a comment that could have been time capsuled from late January 2022

At least a year ago we had a reason for optimism. Now we can expect a slightly-watered down version of this year's non-playoff team for next year.

What pieces are we going to lose?

Probably Cobb, Lewis, Amos, Lazard, and Lowry?  Weren't most people complaining about a lot of those guys?

We will get a healthy Bakhtiari, Jenkins, and probably Rodgers back.  A stronger Zach Tom.  Watson and Doubs with a full season under their belts.  Same for Wyatt and Walker, and an even more experienced TJ Slaton.  I like most of this roster.  Give another decent draft and we are right back in the mix next season.

I can forgive Gutey extending Rodgers coming off b2b MVP seasons. I still think Rodgers can play at an MVP level, he'll just need to be surrounded by weapons a la Tampa surrounding Tom Brady with weapons

However, I can't forgive MLF bringing Joe Barry back. what the ****, man?

I was hoping that Barry was getting the can, but I remember a few times this year LaFleur saying that proper communication and coaching was being given to the players.  Sounded like he was putting the issues squarely on the players.  Either way .. that's got to get fixed or heads should roll.

I'd say Reed Crosby and Yosh will be challenging to bring back, and Tonyan we might not want back of course.

Agreed that most are easily replaced, but I'm not so sure I'd count Rodgers or Bakh with the net gains...both could also play another year older. More ominous about Rodgers than Bakh. Jones is now reaching the point where RBs decline. Depth at DL will be tested. S and TE are **** shows. Doubs needs to step up huge if Lazard and Cobb are gone. Will he?

Could it be better? Sure, I suppose. But with Barry at DC and a QB who can't play in the cold anymore, and our stadium suddenly an instant win for opponents in the playoffs, I'll go into next season with grit teeth.

Yosh is an RFA still, iirc.  The question becomes do you want to pay him those numbers?  I think he is a good player, probably a starter in this league.  BUT his best position is probably LT, and we already have that covered, and Tom might just be a better player too.  Ideal situation for us is probably right of first refusal tender and nobody comes sniffing, or second round tender and someone offers.  Worst case would be first round tender and noone offers, and Tom comes in way better.

I'm still coming to terms with MLF wasting no time in deciding that he doesn't anticipate any significant staff changes coming. Just going to do the same thing with the same people and hope things work out better next year.  MLF is an offensive coach with little control over his QB, and seems OK with fielding a bottom half defense as long as the defense looks competent in a handful of games a year.  The only thing I need to hear now is MLF talking about how he's doing everything he can to convince Rodgers to return.

I'm all for bringing Yosh back at his RFA number.  Absolutely.  He's proven he can play tackle.  Both of them.  At the very least, he's a swing tackle and you cannot have enough of those kinds of guys.

I'm not sure that we won't see Amos back.  I think he gets his best FA offer here, via that void year stuff that I do not totally understand.

Jones needs to re-work his deal.  And I want him back.

100% want Bakh back.  Dude is still elite.  The farther he gets away from that knee injury, the better.  The only way I'm trading him is if I can get a first round pick, then I consider it.  And if Rodgers is back, I need Bakh to protect him.  Love?  I would like him, but I'd like a first round pick better.

Not sold at Myers at center.  Am sold on him as an interior linemen.  Somewhere.  Not opposed to finding a center in the draft and seeing where else Myers could possibly play.

And now I'm rambling.  Could go on and on, but let's see where the chips fall.

The first and biggest one, again, is Rodgers.  Everything else kind of hinges on him.  And we won't know that for a while.

He is, and if Rodgers is coming back I'd have no issue with a second round tender. Wouldn't mind either if a team jumped on that. Might be harder to fit his tender under the cap if we do trade Rodgers.

Even if they don't, he's not bad as a third tackle for one year, even though a lot of our prospects project best at T.

I suppose, to go back to the original document, you can see a way for this team to get back to an 11 or 12 win season next year. Do you really think that enough can be done to make it Super Bowl caliber?

I do think we can be good next year.  If Rodgers is back, healthy, and puts in the work (I don't have any proof, but I don't think that he did as much as in previous offseasons), this can be one of the top 5ish teams.  If it is Love, I expect a little bit of growing pains and a record similar to this season.  I like the OL as it finished the season, and I am really high on the 4 second year WRs going into next season.  TE and possession WR will need to be addressed.  And we probably should look to find someone that can do Aaron Jones type things if we need to get out of his contract.  Defensively, I think we have a huge need at safety.  The rest of the talent is there, but can we get the defense to play like it did the final third of the season, or will it look like it did at Minnesota?

As far as Super Bowl, so much has to go your way, it is hard to say.  Were we not a Super Bowl caliber team last season? We didn't win it, but we lost because of a blocked punt, and had already defeated 3 of the 4 teams in the Championship games, and lost to the other with our back-up QB on short notice.

Oh, DONT GO DEFENSE THE FIRST TWO ROUNDS!!!  Look what drafting defense early has gotten us all these years.  We are just awful at it.  We are at least decent at drafting offensive players.  This year its time to address the offense first.  Id almost say WR-TE rounds 1 and 2 is mandatory because our offense is so bad right now.  So sick and tired of stockpiling defensive players, and every single year like clockwork the board reacts "Oh YeAh wE R GunNa HaV An ElYt Dfens ThIs YeaR"........and we still end up mediocre at best on defense.  Give Aaron some dang weapons this year please.  Not Sammy Watkins.  We are scientifically incapable of building an elite defense.  We have firmly established that since 2010.  Give up that dream and do what we do best; build offensively.
