It is easy to make the playoffs if your QB is as good as you say he is.

It's never easy making the playoffs. It's even harder to win playoff games. I'm as disappointed as everyone else about the last few seasons but saying Gute should be fired after this year? A little far fetched.

He should be.

A GM is a reflection of the whole team. Not just the players.

He failed not once, but twice in Rodgers contracts (he gave him MORE money TWICE when he was already under contract for not just one year, but two).

He did not find adequate skill position players (due to paying Rodgers too much money).

He has allowed poor play from a defense he dumped a TON of resources into.

If Gute was responsible only for the players he had, you could argue he shouldn’t be fired.

But that’s not what you judge a GM for. You judge a GM for the sum of the team’s parts. You judge a GM for drafting a QB in the first round and a backup RB in the second round when your team loses by 7 points in a championship game. Guess what… Tee Higgins or Pittman Jr. help us make up those 7 points. At least 3/4 of the defensive players taken after the Love pick and before our next pick help prevent seven more points.

You judge Gute for him allowing LaFleur to hire Barry. You judge him for allowing LaFleur to keep Barry. You judge him for everything.

And having an elite QB, paying him too much instead of trading him, and not supporting him with every dime you have left against the cap…

Gute is very deserving of being fired.

So much this. Since it looks like we're running it back anyway, we have to ask - are the legs gone because he's older, or did he spend all offseason doing a victory lap after signing that contract?

He'd better be in "optional" TAs this year. Better be doing sprints and squats all offseason.

And Rodgers just might! Maybe missing the playoffs and having his legacy questioned is exactly what he needs to get the fire going again. We've all seen him do it before - remember when we thought he was toast three seasons ago?

Fully agree.  It just gets a little harder, takes just that much more with each passing year to achieve the level of strength and fitness  needed.  Not saying it can't happen, but odds decrease each year.

With all the bitchin about Rodgers missing OTAs last offseason and potential development opportunities.

Assuming both Love and Rodgers are back. Who would you like to see get the majority of snaps in the preseason games next preseason?

This is always the worst take.

Mickey Loomis is still safe with the Saints despite middling results for good stretches of his tenure there.

Duke Tobin is essentially the Bengals GM and has been so since 1999.

Jason Licht's Buccaneers did nothing for six years until finally hitting in 2020.

John Schneider's teams have been a mixed bag and haven't really threatened for the SB since their loss to NE.

Les Snead has been with the Rams since 2011 and he survived the most mediocre possible seasons with Jeff Fisher.

On top of that, the Packers could have an owner who is quick to fire and/or meddle and we could look like the Raiders, Commanders, Jaguars, Texans, Browns, Cowboys, etc.

"He'd be gone if idiots like me were GM" is what he meant.

A really good job overall. Please explain how. He's hit on some first rounders and lineman but he's been horrible with situational drafting and hasn't been able to draft/trade or sign a TE or WR (excluding Watson finally taking a wr talent high)

Got cute with center by taking the first off the board, just one no one had ranked that high to give the chiefs an all pro for the next decade. He's not even a top half of the league center.

2020 draft is one of the worst we've ever had. Savage 5th year option the list goes on and on. He'd be gone if we had an actual owner.

Defense has been mediocre at best with all the draft capital we've spent there. The weapons on offense are non existent aside from Watson. If the clown makes one trade or drafts a real TE or WR  in 2020 we have at least one ring.

I can't wait for he and Rob Pelinka give there masterclass. How to sink a title window in 10 easy steps.

Drafting has been average.  His pro personnel dept has been excellent.  His late round picks haven't been stellar but what do you expect?  Here is a breakdown of all his drafts thourgh 2021.

https://packerswire.usatoday.com/lists/packers-draft-history-picks-general-manager-brian-gutekunst-first-round-2022-nfl-draft/

2-3 starters per draft and that's about where he is at.  Not bad considering how late we draft every year.  2020 draft not that bad.  Dillon, Deguara, Runyan, Garvin, and Love.  If Love turns out to be a franchise QB then it's an excellent draft.  If you get a franchise QB nothing else matters.

Meyers, Humphrey debate it's still early.  Meyers did not have a good season but let it play out for another year before making that judgement.

2022 Draft class is probably his best yet.  Walker, Wyatt, Watson, Doubs, Enagbare all look like players.  Took some shots late that might work out too.

Overall I think he's done a fine job acquiring players.  Thought he put together a roster this year that had a chance.  Just didn't see the Rodgers slide coming must admit I didn't either.

Outside of 2018 and 2019 (Gute became GM in 2018) we've been drafting later than #20 so often a lot of the blue chippers in each round are long gone before our turn is up.  This year will be the first time we'll be drafting this early other than in 2019 when we took Gary at #12.  We drafted Jaire in 2018 with the #18 pick.

I know he ended well but Barry still being the DC next year is just ******* hilarious. All the worst possible **** happened, win the max games without the playoffs and make the D not look like **** for 5 weeks so he stays. Yay. Oh and Aaron is going to be back.

If you think that's bad wait for 2022 Redux (aka 2023). Win another 7-8 games, get a meh pick with no playoffs AND maybe even alienate Love enough that he leaves before we get to really watch him. So exciting.

Everything correct except for the bolded.  LaFleur and who he hired are under Mark Murphy's jurisdiction, so that would be on his head to force those changes.  But everything else yes definitely reflects a no vision and no strategy GM in over his head.
