Not sure a guy like EB will work here...we all get pissed at the cute plays...I watch all the KC games(wife's team) and some of the stuff they pull in the red zone will set us all off!!! We are constantly yelling to just run it or to quit with all of the gimmicks. I love the idea of a more dynamic offense, just feel like if he calls it like he does in KC it won't work here. I do think Nagy would be a better fit though. Ready to look different!!

GMs typically don’t have a say on coaching staffs. That’s a HC decision.

Think the one "contradiction" with this would be a GM is generally going to have an idea of the type of team they want to build, and that of course needs to at least mostly line up with what his coaches want.

If the interest in Bienemy/Nagy or the Reid coaching tree in general is because Vrabel wants to move to a more wide open/pass heavy offense and the GM say wanted to remain with the Shanahan line of thinking on offense(Multi TE, run heavy, play action, etc) you could get a clash there.

yeah it’s pretty interesting. if we hire from the reid tree our WR room is gonna need a huge makeover. it needed one anyway but i’m talking stylistically- our focus on big/physical WRs who are plus blockers is very much at odds with the type of guys they run out there in KC.

it’s such a curious fit in general- i really can’t imagine vrabel ever going pass-happy, so the power spread guys we’ve looked at in years past made total sense to me, but this is a different beast. it’s hard not to wonder if a shift like that wouldn’t be vrabel looking toward a post-henry future, but what does that mean for next year?

It almost has to be Vrabel looking at a post-Henry future, or even a "lesser-Henry" now.

Henry clearly lost half a step or so this year. Hopefully he's still got a couple more good years in him but the writing is already on the wall that the end of his "carry the offense" days is closer than it is further away.

And finding another Henry isn't easy. A guy who can produce at a high level but also do that while taking on 350-400 carries a year. Backs aren't generally built like that anymore. College has largely went away from that too.

I’m going to be a little frustrated if this all circles back to some position coach Vrabel worked with in Houston.

Fwiw, I don’t think it’s just Vrabel hiring his buddy this time, although I don’t think it hurts his chances. He seems to be thought of highly, especially if we want to stay in the McVay/Arthur Smith/LaFleur mold of offense.

lol, would be pretty funny to go from all that scheme change talk to just hiring a vrabel/arthur smith guy. it’s weird to me that the net is that wide

it is kind of interesting though that we have heard no confirmation yet that tim kelly is even getting an interview

Okay he still has never called plays & had he joined either of those franchises he wouldn’t even call plays

Neither LaFleur or Art called plays before taking over here, so not something I think Vrabel is afraid of.

He honestly doesn’t want to change schemes he just want an OC that can add a passing element to our base offense. This is what makes Shanahan offenses so deadly his offense is a combination of his fathers & Grudens passing attack.

True but at this point he’s flirting with the hot seat he doesn’t have time for experiments he needs to hit it with his next OC

sure, that’s what i’d expect. but matt nagy is not an outside zone, play-action, shanahan tree guy in the slightest.
