Justin Jefferson: What more in Year 4?

The Vikings would like to sign Jefferson to a long extension to keep him in Minnesota for a long time and the first step is to exercise the fifth-year option on his contract. According to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the fifth-year option totals have been distributed to teams and it sets Jefferson’s contract at $19,743,000.

The nice part about this number is it is upwards of $10 million less than what he will fetch on an extension which will allow him to be at a slight discount and give the Vikings more flexibility when it comes to maneuvering with an extension.

Depending on what happens with AT19 this off-season, Jefferson could become #4 all time in Vikings receiving yardage after the 2023 season.

4. Adam Thielen: 6,682 (1,858 would break it)
5. Jake Reed: 6,433 (1,609)
6. Sammy White: 6,400 (1,576)
7. Steve Jordan: 6,307 (1,483)
8. Ahmad Rashad: 5,489 (665)
9. Justin Jefferson: 4,825

With 10 TDs next season (25 career TDs currently - 7/10/8) he'd take over the #7 spot (Ahmad Rashad - 34 TDs) and would be 13 TDs behind Kyle Rudolph (48) for #6. Everyone in the Vikings top 5 has 50+ TD catches, but only 2 have over 56 (Carter and Moss).

Nothing is off the table now for Jefferson, who collected The Associated Press 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award on Thursday at NFL Honors. After all, this is a young man who has yet to turn 24 years old and he's just 610 yards away from passing Pro Football Hall of Famer Lynn Swann on the all-time list for receiving yards.

Jefferson netted 35 first-place votes and 192 total points to earn OPOY over runner-up and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes garnered 10 first-place votes and finished with 75 points. Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts came in third with 52 points, including three first-place votes. Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill got one first-place vote, finishing fourth. Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen received the other first-place vote and ended up eighth.

nothing though tops the FF poster years ago who wrote that Favre was a pre-Madonna.

I once had an elderly client who told me that he was "an eternal optometrist." I did not have the heart to tell him he was not an eye doctor.
