I assume they are going to jettison Ezekiel somehow......

If you were a bad team, would you trade a late pick for Zeke and an early pick?

Absolutely. If I was GM of a bad team with a bucket of cap space that probably won’t all be used up this year, I’d be all over it. Zeke isn’t a bad player by any means, and probably not worth his pay, but to also get that early draft pick along side of that, it would be a bonus.

What's the purpose of different deadlines for cuts? It seems overly complicated...

To spread out his cap hit.  By designating him as post 6/1, they can split his $14M dead cap hit over 2023 and 2024 instead of taking the full hit on 2023.  The downside is that his full $18M cap hit for 2023 applies until 6/1.

No....why does the NFL have that rule? Why not just let them cut him now, which is effectively what is happening. Ah, so it is to make the hit apply later. Got it. Seems like both punishment for the team, and a way to keep salaries down (by eliminating one team from spending), but there is so much money and so many teams, that's likely not a real effect most years. Thanks,

They did it to give teams cap flexibility and also give the players in free agency a competitive chance.  If the players actually had to wait until 6/1 to sign that would drive their salaries down (as they had to do in the past when that type of designation didn't exist).  In this particular case, Jones can sign immediately in free agency...he doesn't have to wait until 6/1 to sign somewhere else if he so chooses, but his cap number in Miami will still exist.  So it was actually created to benefit the players, as previously teams waited until 6/1 to cut players.

If you're asking why does the 6/1 date even exist?  It's part of the CBA as the date that tenders are due on players...I imagine they chose it as an arbitrary date that takes place after the draft and OTAs so every team will basically know where they stand on their roster.

Yup, June 1st basically has just been the day for a lot of free agent tenders and deadlines. Really its just used to be the 2nd wave of free agency for a long time.
A lot of teams can use it to their advantage too if they are sitting tight of the cap but need room to sign some of the draft picks in the future too.
It doesn't exactly hurt the team or the player.

Devin Bush is someone who makes a lot of sense. Young, athletic and won't cost much on a prove it deal. Also, had interacted with Flores and positive things to say about him.  Kwesi seem to like taking chances on reclamation projects ala Reagor, Blacklock. I feel like Edmunds will cost too much.
