mwalker
for the offseason, that's a little light on detail. I lose out on my Canada being let go. So moving on now. I'm making some easy choices for cap savings in cutting W.Jackson and M.Trubisky. (I am trying to resign Jackson to a cheaper deal). QB: Pickett is my guy, obviously. Mitch and Mason likely gone.- I try and bring back J.Dobbs, but my back up plan is spending a bit more on Minshew or Brissett. RB Harris and Warren. Letting Snell walk and not a lot of movement here,- I'm hoping McFarland, McNichols and Teague compete to fill in. FB I'm resigning D.Watt to a cap friendly deal. Team glue. Special teams, etc. TE Muth and Heyward are my guys.- I'm making a soft attempt to bring Gentry back or finding a new body in FA. WR Johnson and Pickens are my guys. Austin gets his shot. I'm keeping Sims and MIller. I'm letting Boykin and Gunner go. Maybe Fitzpatrick makes the bottom of the roster.- Looking for a mid tier free agent and spending a draft pick here. OT Moore and Chuks are staying and likely starting.- Looking for someone to compete here (likely RT) in free agency and I'm spending a high draft pick here. OG Daniels and Dotson are staying here. K.Green is a potential cut, but likely a kept as a back up.- Considering an upgrade here in free agency for Dotson and I'm spending a pick here (high pick or mid pick depends on what I do in FA. OC Cole and Hassenauer are fine for now.- Considering an upgrade here in the draft, if BPA is a C. DE I'm hoping D.Leal takes this, with Loudermilk to back him up. I'm considering Larry O, but think he gets more money elsewhere. I consider Wormley, but only if it's cap friendly.- Likely a free agent and possible draft pick here. NT I've got Adams. Alualu retires. - Definite upgrade here in FA or the draft. DT Heyward. Obviously. Maybe R.Wren can earn the back-up role here. I'm hoping with the right signing in FA or the draft I can find someone here who rotates with Cam and Leal.- Definite upgrade here in FA and draft. OLB Watt and Highsmith (I'm re-signing him). I'm hoping Roche and Jones can be solid here. I feel better about Roche than Jones though.- Consider a free agent and definitely draft here. ILB I keep Spillane and likely Jack (hopefully with a reworked deal) I'm cutting ties with Bush, letting Allen walk and letting Robinson and Crowder compete.- I can go two ways here, complete rebuild (cut Jack too) or strong free agent and likely draft pick. CB Wallace. Jackson. I try to resign Sutton, but won't pay him #1 money. I cut Jackson but resign him to a more reasonable deal. I let Witherspoon and Pierre go. - I can go two ways here, complete rebuild or strong free agent and likely high draft pick. CB Minkah. Edmunds. Kazee. Norwood. I'm trying to keep this group intact. - I'm making a pick of FA signing here if we lose Edmunds. FA Targets: QB - Dobbs, Minshew or Brissett. OL - N.Davis or B.Powers. WR - I consider M.Hardman or P.Campbell. DL - D.Payne goes too high. I look at Hargrave, but he does too, so I kick the tires on S.Rankins. ILB - I would love Edmunds, but move for G.Pratt and a draft pick instead. CB - I kick the tires on J.Dean, but settle for R.Ya-SIn and a draft pick. S - If I lose Edmunds I go hard for C.Gardner-Johnson or V.Bell Draft: My priorities are CB, DT, OT, ILB, IOL, WR Edited January 26, 2023 by mwalker
43M
I agree with most of this. Dont want Dobbs back unless he is coaching. He isnt an NFL QB. Minshew or Brisset would be okay. Sign a UDFA for QB3. Agree with WR in FA. No to drafting one. We have enough middling WRs to fill out the roster. Rd 6 or 7 I probably wouldn't really care though. Not sure why you want to change the OL so much. I get we could use talent upgrades, but they were quite arguably a top 10 unit by the end, and they are very young. I wouldnt change more than 1 this offseason....preferably LG. Or get an LT and move Moore to LG, but I doubt it. NT is a major need. Adams a backup at best. Nothing else. DE is also a pretty big need. Heyward is fading, but tgis probably wont be addressed this year unless Heyward suddenly retires. ILB...Edmunds is going to cost top 3 ILB money, but he isnt a top 5 ILB. Not totally against him, but I think you can spend more wisely. CB...if we lose Sutton, major resources going here. If we keep Sutton, draft pick and low end FA. Maybe being Jackson back cheaper.
bigben07MVP
I do not like Mecole Hardman or Paris Campbell for us at all. Both are in the same mold as Austin/Sims/Miller. Hardman is not a good NFL WR. He’s a fast gadget guy who has put up #s thanks to Andy Reid being a genius. Campbell is a gadget guy as well who can’t stay healthy. We need either a reliable safety blanket slot type (Landry/Meyers/JuJu) or an X who can take the top off a defense (Chark/Slayton) imo. 3rivers
ILB - if you want to spend , then get L.David for 2 or 3 years, can't go wrong there IMO, dude is still ace. Or give R.Evans a shot. Edmunds got pushed around in that playoff game, so NO to him. OL - would prefer OT to be added. What if Chuks or Moore get hurt? No depth currently, what if they get hurt - wait for excuses or 'nest man up , the standard is the standard' . Don't want to hear or watch it EDGE Justion Houston for depth even if they keep Highsmith. KVN as well but he would be ILB and reserve OLB, versatile smart vet would be an asset to have. DT - hopefully help here in early rounds. Akiem Hicks would be good though CB - Jackson? This is still a mystery to me, he has an injury issue that might plague him sadly as that seems. If healthy, then that could be a starter there, if he stays on the field. I would like to sign Sutton but he might want to play elsewhere or of course get a better deal so thats the business side of it. S - Bell of course, but if he wins SB, why would he leave? I wold think they would retain him but never know in this league. Imagine Bell and Minkah in the secondary why care too much though, canada will cost this team more than the roster. This team will win in spite of him IMO, is he worse than fichner though?

I do think you need to add talent to the OL. We improved from awful to solid and there's enough veteran money spent here that you'd prefer to be adding through the draft. Dotson would be a much better back up then starter. Cole is decent, so that's why I said if the right OC is BPA at your pick then I'd consider it. OT, I just think we need an upgrade here, but for sure we need depth - and I'd argue genuine competition at each position will make them all better, rather than an URFA type, which we've been doing for years. As for bigben07mvp's comment that we need a JuJu/Landry/Meyers type - we're just not paying what they'll get, but I think we need someone to stretch the field and create separation. That said, I don't mind Chark or Slayton.

No to Hicks No to Houston (Pass rush specialist is it--we need more 3-down type) No to David All three of these guys are going to cost more than they are worth, and at their age, the could fall off at any time. We already have our Defensive Leadership in Cam, Watt, and Minkah. And I wouldn't mind Edmunds, tbh. I think he looks a lot better behind our line, than he did behind Buffalo's--IMO, our DL is much more solid, thus Edmunds looks better, IMO, and I'd rather pay a 24YO with promise, than a 31-33YO on his way down. I wouldn't even mind keeping Bush, with Robinson, if it means we don't pay Jack $8M. Bush cannot demand anywhere near that, and I get a sneaking suspicion that one more year removed from his injury, and he'll trust it more, and be better all around, at a much cheaper price. and Robinson started looking pretty good at the end, so I'd like to see what we have in them, with Edmunds coming in as our 'star'/leader ILB, and if one of the other two grow/improve?? All the better... Edited January 27, 2023 by Ward4HOF

The issue is, with Houston being 34YO, is that asking him to be a 3-down edge backer, is that he's simply not the same athlete as he was 14 years ago. Using him on the field for too long is going to take its toll. the smart play is to use him to his strength, which is coming off the edge in passing situations, and I think paying someone like that is takingboth an extra roster spot, as well as, cap space. I guess I'm saying that it's not that he can't play the run, but asking him to play all defensive snaps is going to wear him down, making him less effective as a pass rusher... 10 hours ago, 3rivers said: promise is always nice, but if it's2x the price, the team might be better off overall now with that spent elsewhere. When he came out in the draft, many felt he had the potential to be used off the edge in a 3-4. Plus, he's played very well in his young career, to date, especailly for not having a top DL to keep him clean, at least IMO. I think he has not reached his ceiling yet, I guess is what I'm saying. But that's okay for a guy who is just 24 (25 in May). 10 hours ago, 3rivers said: yeah, they really got ILB all ruined on this team, lack of production and cap issues as well as draft capital. But Bush is also just 24, turning 25, right before the season. And let's not forget, that before his injury, Bush looked to be on track to becoming what we'd hoped during his rookie season. The good thing about him not looking looking great is that we can sign him for cheap, and I trust our defensive staff to determine whether he's got a chance to be 'saved', and get back on track. And with Mark Robinson, just turning 24 before the season, that's a potentially solid looking, young group. If we can convince Jack to take a pay cut, and/or drafting another talent, we may very well be able to turn this unit around, and quick. And yes, they need to keep Sutton. IMO, those are our 2 priorites this FA...bring in Trumaine, and keep Sutton. I would like to think that drafting a CB and ILB in the first 4 picks, would go a long way in solidifying this defense. I like Highsmith, but this was in case he doesn't want to sign here or gets traded. I would still hope they sign Houston anyways, always thought he was a great all around defender and would be great to have in case Highsmith or TJ get injured. 2 hours ago, Ward4HOF said: The good thing about Edmunds, though, is that he has the body type, and is still young enough to develop as an edge player, in spots...he has the potential to be a 2-for-1 type talent. I really wonder what they'll do here, because it's been kind of pieced together for a while now with FAs past their prime and some solid, but back-up like starters. We could really use a star here, if we can find one.

I'd also be really curious what 'type' of ILB they moved for (FA or draft), but not unlike CB, we've been missing a #1 here for a while. Quote I'm making some easy choices for cap savings in cutting W.Jackson and M.Trubisky. (I am trying to resign Jackson to a cheaper deal). I agree. I wouldn't mind Tribisky back either. He sounds like he wants to be a starter somewhere. If he understands the situation (This is Pickett's team now and going forward) and if he is not as hot a commodity as he thinks, come on back. Quote QB: Pickett is my guy, obviously. Mitch and Mason likely gone. I try and bring back J.Dobbs, but my back up plan is spending a bit more on Minshew or Brissett. I see Dobbs as an on the sideline type of coach. I would prefer a veteran who has game experience. I would again go for Carson Wentz. I think he would be fine in a back-up role and could do some things well if called upon to win a game or two. He needs someone to believe in him and he could get his swagger back being a back-up. I actually think that Carson has more to offer than both Gardner and Jacoby. Quote RB Harris and Warren. Letting Snell walk and not a lot of movement here, - I'm hoping McFarland, McNichols and Teague compete to fill in. I think Snell knows his role and is competitive. I like Teague. I would consider McFarland because of his speed and differing style from the other two backs. Unfortunately, he can't stay healthy or consistently play well. I would look for a scatback in free agency cuts or a low draft pick perhaps. Quote FB I'm resigning D. Watt to a cap friendly deal. Team glue. Special teams, etc. I actually see Connor perhaps taking over this role in a year. He is not ideal TE size and is a bit of a FB/HB tweener type. Watt has some tools and the team truthfully hasn't used him as much as they could as a runner and receiver. I would like to see Watt back as well. Quote TE Muth and Heyward are my guys. - I'm making a soft attempt to bring Gentry back or finding a new body in FA. I can actually see them looking into the draft for help. If, not I wouldn't mind a guy like Austin Hooper who is probably somewhat costly, but a solid blocker who can catch. The other option would be another backup/solid blocker type. Quote WR Johnson and Pickens are my guys. Austin gets his shot. I'm keeping Sims and Miller. I'm letting Boykin and Gunner go. Maybe Fitzpatrick makes the bottom of the roster. - Looking for a mid tier free agent and spending a draft pick here. That is all very reasonable and realistic thinking. Quote OT Moore and Chuks are staying and likely starting. - Looking for someone to compete here (likely RT) in free agency and I'm spending a high draft pick here. Not feeling the free agent tackles thus far. Maybe someone becomes a cap casualty. I would have loved LT Taylor Lewaan three or four years ago. As a veteran he will be too expensive and I would rather draft and develop a young high draft pick at RT or LT. There are some solid guys at tackle that we might be able to draft between round 1 and round 3. Quote OG Daniels and Dotson are staying here. K.Green is a potential cut, but likely a kept as a back up. - Considering an upgrade here in free agency for Dotson and I'm spending a pick here (high pick or mid pick depends on what I do in FA. The kids from Florida and USC would be solid OG prospects. Big Ben Powers may be a solid free agent pick-up and it weakens the Ravens OL. I was never a fan of drafting Green and I am still upset they didn't draft Quinn Meinerz. I am pulling for Green to make a turnaround, but he may be too far down the depth chart. Dotson seems to need competition to bring the best out in his game and Ben Powers could do that. Back to the smashmouth and Blitzburgh style of football. Quote OC Cole and Hassenauer are fine for now. - Considering an upgrade here in the draft, if BPA is a C. I agree. Cole and Daniels really grew as the season went on. JC is a decent back-up. I would look for a franchise OC, but have not heard of a Tyler Linderbaum type prospect yet. Quote DE I'm hoping D.Leal takes this, with Loudermilk to back him up. I'm considering Larry O, but think he gets more money elsewhere. I consider Wormley, but only if it's cap friendly. - Likely a free agent and possible draft pick here. I expect Loudermilk to step up. Many forget that it took Cam Heyward three or four years to develop. Leal has a lot of versatility and the two of them are solid. They could use some depth here as well. Quote NT I've got Adams. Alualu retires. - Definite upgrade here in FA or the draft. Definitely need a NG and a solid run stuffer. If you spend money take a look at Poona Ford. He's not a true NG, but is a solid run stuffer. I would prefer the draft with a younger big McNasty and resign Larry Ogunjobi to play DT. Quote DT Heyward. Obviously. Maybe R.Wren can earn the back-up role here. I'm hoping with the right signing in FA or the draft I can find someone here who rotates with Cam and Leal. - Definite upgrade here in FA and draft. I am going to resign Ogunjobi. He did a decent job and with another year in the system could make a bigger impact. Quote OLB Watt and Highsmith (I'm re-signing him). I'm hoping Roche and Jones can be solid here. I feel better about Roche than Jones though. - Consider a free agent and definitely draft here. I agree with most of this except I am going to sign a veteran like Bud Dupree. Great fit and role player with experience. Quote ILB I keep Spillane and likely Jack (hopefully with a reworked deal) I'm cutting ties with Bush, letting Allen walk and letting Robinson and Crowder compete. - Quote I can go two ways here, complete rebuild (cut Jack too) or strong free agent and likely draft pick. I try to keep Jack at a cap friendly, but fair deal. Robinson and crowder can compete, but I look at a mid round pick as well. I am looking to spend money on Tremaine Edmunds. I may still draft a decent player in the first four rounds. Yes he was pushed around by the Bengals, but so was the entire Bills defense. Get DL's who can occupy blockers and let your MLB's flow downhill and thump. Edmunds is more instinctive than his brother and is the type of athletic ILB that can move and cover the Steelers covet. Quote CB Wallace. Jackson. I try to resign Sutton, but won't pay him #1 money. I cut Jackson but resign him to a more reasonable deal. I let Witherspoon and Pierre go. - I can go two ways here, complete rebuild or strong free agent and likely high draft pick. I somewhat agree. I would try to resign Sutton, if not I am going to try to keep Witherspoon. I agree, cut Jackson and resign him to a $$$ friendlier deal. Wallace proved to be solid. Pierre is a RFA, so I have nothing to lose signing him as a RFA. Definitely looking to draft a stud in round one or two. Quote FS/SS Minkah. Edmunds. Kazee. Norwood. I'm trying to keep this group intact. - I'm making a pick of FA signing here if we lose Edmunds. I really like Edmunds play and tandem with Minkah and Kazee. Norwood is up and down, but not a bad back-up. FA Targets: QB - Dobbs, Minshew or Brissett. - - I try to keep Mitch, look at Wentz,, or either of these two are good if the $$$ is right. OL - N.Davis or B.Powers. - - I like both of these guys. I am leaning towards Powers because of health. WR - I consider M.Hardman or P.Campbell. - - I could see either player. I like Campbell's ability, but always seems to be hurt. DL - D.Payne goes too high. I look at Hargrave, but he does too,so I kick the tires on S.Rankins. - -DT's are big $$$ ILB - I would love Edmunds, but move for G.Pratt and a draft pick instead. - - Draft a NG, resign Ogunjobi and sign Edmunds CB - I kick the tires on J.Dean, but settle for R.Ya-SIn and a draft pick. - -Would prefer Cam Sutton and a draft choice. S - If I lose Edmunds I go hard for C.Gardner-Johnson or V.Bell - - I try everything to keep Edmunds. I'd pprefer Jessie Bates as a FA. Draft: My priorities are CB, DT, OT, ILB, IOL, WR - - Agree 100%. I didn't look at yours and wrote mine out and came up with the same order. CB, DT/NG, OT, ILB, IOL, WR, Edge Good post

Raidersfan1
Black Hat You got the wrong QB, RB, WR... You got no backup TE and a FB with possibly more nepotism along the way in bringing back a SECOND fullback that's gets labeled as a special teamer, when Benny Snell is arguably the better special teamer. And, thus, was the end of Benny Snell football. OFFENSIVE LINE 1) DRAFT LEFT TACKLE Draft left tackle within first three rounds and shuffle Dan Moore to RT. "Exchange" Chuks for a UFA starter at guard at a similar figure. Risner-Cole-Daniels mediocrity at its best. Yet, it's in place. And each successful mid rd pick in the coming years at IOL you save $10m. 2) DEVELOP A LEGITIMATE RIGHT SIDE Draft Dawand Jones at RT as you slowly replace each and every mediocre piece on the line. This is a identity pick bc you're smashing mouths. It would be wise to pick up Minnesota TE 6'7" RD3 hyphenated last name to pair with as you install the first piece of the line. Now, you need a Mauler at LG for power, a center to string it together, and a left tackle. This is more costly but better long term. Because we're building. 3) Patchwork Draft a guard and call it a day as your tackles ... are shipwrecked men resorting to sea water from an unquenchable thirst (I.e. They get beat every play) Defensive Line is also fun. I could see a Wormley re-signing. Because obviously. Mediocrity is the standard. 1) CONTROL THE LINE A double dip might be the best allocation of resources. Somin like an Ika plus a fourth rounder. Heyward mitigates this need, because he'll play 2-3 more years, with at least a year and a half at a high level. 2) Patchwork Re-sign one DL and a fourth Rd pick. The problem is Wormley is a #5 DL and that's not starter quality. Outside Linebacker The longer you wait on Highsmith the less leverage you have. Is him playing at "$1m" and then a franchise tag really the best decision here? Where does extension at $18-20-25m rank here? Hopefully last. This is my top need here. Not because it's a need at all. It's a nice depth piece away from being okay. But it's one of those franchise defining decisions... for example, MAF is probably loved here letting in one goal out of ten, but when that went down Jimmy did the HOF move and drafted goalie with their top pick that off-season. Not that he was going to play anytime soon. He was traded. But that's what you do to prevent things from spiraling out of control. DEFENSIVE BACK Cam Sutton is like a top 50 CB. I would take a corner from every team and most teams a second corner before picking him. He will be paid like a top 25 CB because he's a free agent. That's a fight you don't fight. The juice just ain't worth the squeeze. This is the top need. You need to ask yourself. Do I want to repair the secondary or defensive line first? Because that's the decision. I would say gimme a new running back and wide receiver because I don't live in my own fears...
