onejayhawk
I have been reviewing the oddities and first times for this season. For example, we knew that rookies played a lot but it was more an OMG amount. Two teams had more rookies snaps and they are #1 and #2 in the draft, or they were until Chicago traded the pick. We shattered the record for most rookie snaps in the Super Bowl, with a mind blowing 221 regular snaps. That even beats SB XVI, Joe Montana's first title, when Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright, and Carlton Williamson played in the 49er secondary. We can only hope that McDuffie is as good as Ronnie Lott. Add in that we played three second year players--Humphrey, Smith, and Bolton--more than 90% of the possible snaps. Prior to the season there were article about the Strength of Schedule being unprecedented, see example below. That did not quite materialize but the SoS was still worse than league average following a SoS in 2021 which was 27th (6th toughest).https://www.sharpfootballanalysis.com/analysis/2022-nfl-strength-of-schedule/ The Chiefs had a top 10 rushing defense. Read that sentence slowly. They were 8th in yards allowed and 6th in TD allowed. One reason for this is that the Chiefs were dead last in passing TD allowed. Overall, the defense was below average for a Championship team but better than the prior two seasons. In sum, it was an improbable championship. True we have the best combination of QB and HC but also one of the youngest rosters and indications are that it will get younger still. From the first SB team only 4 starters again started--Mahomes, Kelce, Clark, and Jones. Clark and two other names of note, Thornhill and Hardman, will not return in 2023. As an Eagles fan, this really irritates me about our philosophy. 1st round pick Jordan Davis, 10 defensive snaps, 12 ST snaps. 2nd round pick Cam Jurgens, 5 ST snaps. 3rd round pick Nakobe Dean, 24 ST snaps 6th round pick Kyron Johson, DNP 6th round pick Grant Calcaterra, 1 offensive snap, 8 ST snaps. 10 defensive snaps, 1 offensive snap, 49 ST snaps. Question, are the Chiefs 221 snaps only offense and defense, or are ST included ??

There are an additional 93 ST snaps. 7th round picks--Pacheco, Watson, Johnson--accounted for 26 offensive, 31 defensive, and 29 ST snaps.
