Is Chris Jones on a Hall of Fame Track?

This popped up last summer in relation to Aaron Donald. While no one questions Donald' HoF credentials, was there anyone else at the position on a HoF track. The conclusion then was that Jones was not completely out of the running but his chances were thin.

Fast forward six months. Jones had his second 15+ sack season (Donald has only one but it was 20+ sacks). He had an epic game on a big stage in the conference championships--10 pressures, 5 hits, 2 sacks on Joe Cool. He has a real shot at Defensive Player of the Year, which always went to Donald if it went to a DT at all.

Still, as of age 28 he sits at 41.93 on the Pro-Football Reference HoF Monitor. For comparison, Donald has 100 more at 146, 2nd all timeThat is on 42nd among DT and less than half what an average HoF player has. He can get additional points for work already do through a championship and additional awards. Winning DPoY would be a huge boost since it rates 12.5 points.

This year he is the best DT in the league by consensus. That has legacy value in future award voting. He is on what appears to be a young dynasty. This also has award value. The Monitor is only way of tracking a player's current impact and Jones has lived in Donald's shadow. He has emerged and he did so with flair and style.

What are his chances?

He's on track, and it helps that he is linked with the Chiefs teams.

There's really no point in comparing him to Donald though. Aaron Donald at 28 already had 2 DPOY awards and 3 more 1st team all pros.

The problem is that it's unavoidable. Jones has routinely been referred to as the 2nd best DT.

Donald is possibly the GOAT. The attention he gets clouds the question of whether Jones is worthy.

I don't think it will. You can have 2 DTs per ERA make the HOF. Jones is making a very good case for himself. He's going to be the best defensive player from likely the team of the decade. If he can keep up the counting stats and add pro bowls, all pros, he'll get in.

He will get a big boost if the Chiefs win and he looks dominant in the superbowl.

He is an incredible player.

I think he is a hofer

He also looks massive. Some people are his size and don't seem imposing and he does. All these things count

Probably too soon for that, unless you're just saying you personally would put him in 1st ballot.

I don’t mean if he retired today. But barring a Haynesworth like collapse. Other than Donald and Watt, I’m drawing a blank trying to come up with a more dominant interior pass rusher in the last 20 years.
