Mike Mitchell named AFC defensive player of the week. It’s amazing that he stayed unemployed his whole offseason and the first month of the season. He can play!

In limited bursts, he can absolutely play. Over a long contract? Not so much.

I’m very impressed with the Vegas Raiders. They are doing things now- getting 5 1st round picks next two years, getting rid of anybody not fitting into Grudens plans and sacrificing this year so when they make the Vegas move they are going to have long term success. They are smart- hire their 1st choice for front office and HC to Long term contracts, take the pain of trading away assets to build future value. I think this is what Shanny wanted to do here but Danny was worried about sales. Now the giants are dumping players for terrible value.

Brown, Raiders doing it right. Giants not taking Darnold this year will be one of the worst missed opportunities ever. Good for us

Yeah, just look at Kirk go. Put up 27 points on the Saints (at home). Sure, 7 of them were for the Saints, but the point is that Kirk lights up that scoreboard baby!

It’s just so predictable. Kirk puts up great numbers on his first couple drives. Looks great. You think he’s amazing. And then you look up and he’s 4-3-1 with basically the same team Sam Bradford and Case Keenum were 13-3 with.

And yeah, we all get it. The defense has really fallen off, it’s not Kirk’s fault. He’s amazing — just look at the stats, just look at the nice highlight throws. But what none of that really shows is the damage done by all the brain-dead picks, all the drive-killing sacks where he just freezes or takes off running blindly, all the awful and crucially timed fumbles, all the poor run game management, all the drives bogging down on the fringes of field goal range, all the head-scratching clock management decisions, etc. All the same things he did for us when he lit up the stat sheet but not the standings.

He does more to make you win than lots of QBs. He also does more to make you lose. Even if Smith isn’t the answer (a fair position to hold), Kirk Cousins wasn’t either.

Oddly enough nobody has said Kirk is amazing. All I said is Kirk is better than Smith and he is. There is literally no argument to be had there.

Bingo. That pick 6 was oddly reminiscent of Smith (aka DGS) throwing a pick that was returned, by the Saints, as well (they scored 2 plays later). That was a hugely boneheaded throw as well. Or his fumble on the fringes of FG range, that was returned into Redskins territory and led to a FG(at least a 6 point swing).

Also, apparently Kirk causes Thielen to fumble the ball right before halftime. Leading to 7 points for the Saints. That was a 10-14 point swing right there.

So that's also apparently his fault. Along with the poor run blocking. And the poor run game. And the poor defense. And kickers missing chip shots

Because the only reason people still trot out W/L records for QBs is if they think he plays all those other positions too.

Yup. He still makes boneheaded plays. He still needs to protect the ball better (especially in the pocket).

But no one says hes Brady or Rodgers. He's just better than DGS. Because DGS still fumbles the ball at almost the same rate. And still gets INT at almost the same rate. He's just not moving the ball. And the offense is literally not squarely on his shoulders like it is with Kirk. Our offense rides on the back of a 33yr old RB.

I'd say both Smith and Cousins give us a reasonably close chance of winning.  Smith plays an uber conservative style built around ball control.  Kirk is more of a slinger, taking chances that puts up a ton of more yards but will cause turnovers.

As a fan watching the games, watching Alex Smith play QB is incredibly boring.
