Nick Sirianni - How much credit does he get?

I am personally not a subscriber to this opinion, but I thought it would be interesting to discuss this regardless.

Howie Roseman is the preeminent GM in the league, he is running circles around almost every GM in terms of trades, FA, cap management, draft hits, etc. He was the GM when the Eagles won with Dougie P and has maintained a veteran roster with top end talent yet infusing it with young talent amounting it to be the 9th youngest team in the league.

What do you think, could "anybody" coach this team? Is Nick Sirianni a top 5 coach if he wins the SB? Is he a "system HC" (not sure if this term exists, but I'll coin it)?

That guy is an idiot.

Obviously players are the most important part, but we have seen many talented rosters in the past that went nowhere.   We have no idea how good Hurts wouldve been with say...Nathaniel Hackett or Kliff Kingsbury.

Sirianni obviously came into a really good situation, but to claim he is on a free ride is just sour grapes from a jaded rival player.

Sirianni listened to his vets his first year about needing more rest and he cancelled the mandatory minicamp & gave them more rest days during the season. He's a tremendous players coach. Like this might be the healthiest the Eagles ever have been in a season.

Sirianni early on in his first year with the Eagles was going super pass heavy the first 7 weeks and had the humility to realize he needed to hand over play calling duties to Steichen and take a more CEO approach to game days and has been one of the best coaches in the game from an in-game management perspective. He knows when to challenge, take timeouts, go for it on 4th downs, etc. I never feel like I have to really worry about the little stuff like that on game days and let me tell you.... its a good feeling.

Let's also not act like Sirianni isn't crafting up game plans on offense and scripting the first 15 plays which the Eagles are one of the best in the league at.

One of the more foolish things I’ve ever heard lol…

First off, even if that’s true, that makes Julian Love look awful bc the Eagles absolutely bamboozled them twice and the Giants did not belong on the same field and Love was a key participant in that.

Next, every coach ever who has been to the Super Bowl has a stacked team. Andy Reid has Mahomes for gods sakes. The guy can flick the ball anywhere, anytime and has Mahomes with the greatest TE ever. And I say that not to discredit Reid. He’s as good as it gets but you can’t fault a guy for getting his “stacked” team to the biggest possible game.

Didn't this kind of talk already get squashed once in PHI this year?

"Any QB would be able to win 12 games with this roster." Then Minshew lost both starts...

Exactly. Hurts is a product of the system until proven otherwise. Until he can be MVP and get a top seed on a talentless team, he’s a JAG.

And same with Sirianni.

And same with Roseman.

The Eagles roster is actually filled with JAGs that rely on other players on the roster to be good. Either that, or they rely on the system. And the system relies on the talent. It all makes sense if you don’t think about it.

It's the funny thing. Outsiders literally try to discredit every single individual depending on who is the person in question and then it's like "ok, so why are they successful???? Clearly someone did something right?"

He's a very good coach who could very soon be approaching great coach status.

They do have a loaded roster, so his long term impact is TBD. But bad coaches can tank a roster.

At this point, Sirianni gets credit for the team improving and now making the Superbowl.

The only question is whether he gets a lot of credit or a ton of it.

True.  Howie Roseman has fielded top 5 aggregate talent every year since the one after he got the job.  How good is the current incarnation?  Let's say Howie can get all of his veteran starters back, as Tampa Bay did after winning SB-LV.  When he goes to the 2023 draft he will need a WR3:  i.e. a top 96 Wide Receiver.  He can get an overqualified candidate with pick #10, after which he'll be drafting for depth.

A Head Coach who gets to work with such a Philly team still has to succeed where 10 of 11 have failed before him.  People might not agree such a coach is good if he wins but they might well agree he's bad if he loses.  As for coaches who continue to be criticized after they win, well, I'm told that Lombardi Trophies make great consolation prizes.

Sad reality we live in.

Brady didn’t get his full dues from everyone until he left Belichick. Mahomes until Hill left (and even still, “he has Reid”). Sherman was a product of the Cover 3. You’ve got to jump through every hoop to satisfy some folks. Sirianni won’t get credit until he wins without a stacked roster, same for Hurts.

Worst part of it all, is how selective some are with how they apply that.
