Steve Wilks got it and good for him, but I would say the 49ers are closer to a Super Bowl win than the Vikings, and to me Flores is by far the better DC or HC for that matter than Wilks. So were the 49ers not interested in Flores? Either way great the Vikings were able to get him, he was right in line with Fangio as the best DC available, Fangio might get a slight nod but not in terms of his long term potential because obviously Flores is still a young and up and coming coach. It sounds like the niners wanted someone to come in and still run their same wide 9 front scheme. So wilks was amendable to doing that. but no, they never talked. SemperFeist
I found this tidbit a bit interesting. I wonder what jobs “league circles” seeing opening up? Obviously there’s typically 4-5 jobs opening up every year, but I really don’t see anything that’s obvious. Certain coaches will undoubtedly be on the hot seat, but those seats can easily cool with some success. Also, while Flores certainly should be a HC candidate in the future. He wasn’t exactly on everyone’s interview list this year. I’m pretty sure Arizona was the only team that even interviewed him. It will be interesting to see if that changes. Tampa Bay is on my list New Orleans hired Allen for the rebuild, I’d expect him to stick around until the salary cap gets fixed. Cleveland will keep Stefanski if they get back to competing for the playoffs, which they should do with a full year with Watson. Like it or not. And I think Vrabel has enough equity to survive another poor year. So, while jobs will certainly open up, I still don’t see where a sense of more jobs than normal opening up would come from.

There's generally something unexpected...kinda like the Colts this year. I never would have figured that he'd can Reich after being above .500 for 3 out of 4 years despite having a turnstile at QB. So who knows...maybe McVay actually does retire after next season...maybe Carroll does after keeping the Seahawks afloat and maybe drafting a new QB. Or god forbid, Belichick just is over it. CB is the 2nd hardest position to transition to in the pros, and Booth was hardly healthy. Cine had a freak injury. They may end up being busts. But there is absolutely no way to adjudicate them as such based on 2022. What? Why so hostile? Where did I say I wasn’t willing to wait another season? I said I was uncertain about Cine and a Booth (due to injuries) If you did any sort of even elementary reading, you’d see that I was speaking out of uncertainty, not placing them as busts. MAYBE READ before you freak out, weirdo.

Jets are loaded with talent and lack a QB. I could see the Jets get impatient with Saleh if start slow next year. Flores could coach against Bill and get payback to the Dolphins. Rams -McVay if have another bad year he could take TV deal and retire.

vike daddy
It’s apparently going to take a little while longer for the proverbial white smoke to emerge from the Cardinals’ facility. Arizona does not plan to hire a head coach until after Super Bowl LVII, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday. The Cardinals were apparently down to three finalists in Brian Flores, Mike Kafka, and Lou Anarumo. But Flores decided that he did not want to wait around only to lose out on the job, instead electing to become Minnesota’s defensive coordinator. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/02/08/report-cardinals-dont-plan-to-hire-head-coach-until-after-super-bowl/

The Colts have supposedly interviewed Steichen twice.
battle2heaven
Next week -Presser -coaching moves on the defense. I'm sure Flores will bring in a few coaches he likes. and i'm also pretty sure Ed's kid won't be staying on this staff lol.
SemperFeist
I’ll be very curious to see who, if anyone, Flores brings in. None of the current position coaches were exactly “Ed’s guys”. Chris Rumph might be the closest thing as he was the d-line coach in Chicago during the 2021 season under Sean Desai, who is a Fangio/Donatell disciple. And Rumph still has ties to Flores through Belichick and Saban, as he was Alabama’s d-line coach from 2011-13 But Mike Smith is a Mike Pettine guy. Daronte Jones comes from the Mike Nolan/Marvin Lewis background. And Greg Manusky comes from the Schottenheimer lineage. Roy Anderson, the assistant DB/Safties coach looks like the only coach who’s actually worked extensively with Donatell before coming to Minnesota. Maybe they never even really let Ed pick out his own staff, or maybe he didn’t have much that was able to follow him to Minnesota Yr. 1. vike daddy
Phil Mackey@PhilMackey Something interesting to note about Brian Flores' defensive tendencies... In 2021, Miami Dolphins safeties rushed the passer *200 times*. By far the most in the NFL. Harrison Smith used to be very good at this, but he was only sent on 14 pass rushing snaps this season.
