swede700 Posted February 13, 2023 Share Posted February 13, 2023 (edited) Well, the assistant DL coach was Donatell's teammate at Wake Forest, so he does still have a connection with the staff outside of his dad. He was held accountable for his failures and was let go. There aren’t many opportunities to get your foot in the door in the NFL. If he’s doing a good job as a quality control coach, why would the Vikings want to let Shane Donatell go? If the Vikings want to keep him, why would he want to leave? If the Vikings want to keep him, why would he want to leave? the same reason Adam Zimmer was no longer going to be with the Vikings when his Dad was fired. He is a Donatell. He'll get a job somewhere based on his name alone. Hell, probably can get a job with Vic. Didn't he bring in another Donatell last week? We don't know the status of what Adam Zimmer's contract was in relation to Steve Donatell's. I believe coaches typically sign 2-yr deals (don't know necessarily about quality control coaches). If Steve Donatell signed a 2-yr deal, he would likely remain through next year, so they don't have to pay him to not coach. It's quite possible that Adam's contract just ran out and he wasn't retained (even though I know lots of places it says he was fired along with his dad). Much like last year’s press conference with Donatell, I expect Flores will get into loose details on why he chose Minnesota, and he’ll give some basic details of how he expects the defense to operate.
