Kevin Durant traded to Suns

The Nets rebuild is probably going to take some time but I actually like the haul of picks they got back. Durant is going to be a free agent in 2026 at age 38 and Chris Paul is going to be a free agent in 2024 at age 40, those 25/27/29 picks could be high lottery choices depending on what happens with their core guys down the road.

Their books don't look terrible going forward either, they should be able to move some of their veteran guys like Royce/DFS/Crowder tomorrow before the deadline closes. But either way they have a ton of money coming off of their books after the 23-24 season and the only guys they have under contract after next season are Bridges, Simmons, DFS, Thomas, and Sharpe.

If they can somehow get Simmons off of their books they're setting themselves up nicely for the summer of 2025. Which is setting up to have a monster free agent class featuring Jayson Tatum, Donovan Mitchell, Brandon Ingram, Jamal Murray and a few more guys.

The Nets really traded away: James Harden, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving

And received: Ben Simmons, Dorian Finney Smith, Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, Spencer Dinwiddie, 2023 FRP (PHI), 2027 FRP (PHI), 2023 FRP (PHX), 2025 FRP (PHX), 2027 FRP (PHX), 2029 FRP (PHX), 2029 FRP (DAL)

Crazy to think the Jazz received just as many picks and more swaps when we traded away Gobert and Donovan.

This Nets team has a chance to be better now than it was before they got KD Kyrie and Harden. And people will bash the Nets for not making the Big 3 work but as someone once said “you can’t polish a turd. I tried”.

Harden quits easily and too moody, Kyrie can’t be trusted, and KD is too moody. All of them has poor leadership skills. At least KD admits he don’t want to lead. The Nets did what every franchise would’ve done and that’s tie themselves to Kyrie to get KD and then added Harden bc that’s what KD wanted. It’s no different than what the Lakers did with LeBron getting rid of all their young players and picks for AD and Russ. The only thing that bailed them out was the bubble title. The Nets didn’t get a title bc KD toe was on the line in 2021 that would’ve beaten the Bucks plus the Nets had injuries to both Kyrie and Harden in that series. So unlike the Lakers lucky break in 2020 the Nets got unlucky in 2021.

The Nets pressed the retool button not rebuild. They have a potentially really good team. Let’s see what Vaughn does with this team. If he can’t do much of anything then get a better coach bc these players are young and talented. Then like you said in the summer of 2025 or if possible before that go get a superstar that can be trusted and be a leader like a Mitchell to go with all this nice young talent and really be threats in the East.

The roster is going to need a lot of work before they're anywhere near contention. I like Bridges/Johnson and Thomas has been playing better the last few games but outside of that I'm not sure how many of the other guys are even in the Nets long term plans. I think they'll move off of guys like Royce, Dinwiddie, DFS, and ideally Simmons to try and add even more picks and cap flexibility.

What does the Suns rotation look like now?

PG - Paul / Payne

SG - Booker / Shamet

SF - Durant / Warren

PF - Craig / Saric

C - Ayton / Biyombo

I think they could still use a veteran wing and an upgrade behind Ayton.

landale, okogie and d lee

d. lee is leading the lg in 3pt shooting, having a good year.

landale has been good

okogie is really good on defense, prob will get to play some more now that scoring isn't an issue

prob need a wing defender either via trade or buyout market

If we buyout Olynyk he'd be a good depth piece for you guys.

Roster ain’t nowhere near contention. This is an NBA purgatory roster and while we have accumulated quite a lot of assets, what can this team really tune out of that? It’s not gonna be as good as Celtics or Bucks. And the west is all of a sudden stacked. Nobody gonna care about this team lol.

You guys should be able to tank ROS and get a late lottery pick at least.

Suns now the favorite. Only teams I could see beating them are the Nuggets, Celtics, and Bucks. This year it feels more likely for them to lose with only 1/4 of a regular season (by the time KD is back) to build chemistry, but if they do then next year is looking cheeks for the league.

Boston is still the favorite to me.

Your eternal optimism, no matter the circumstances, is commendable.

Loool reminds me of the people that say “Well the Nets should’ve just kept their young core of D-lo, LeVert, Allen, Dindwiddie etc.”  when the only one who is still really relevant is Allen and even that’s been offset by Claxton’s emergency lmao. No sane person would choose that over title contention despite how crazy it was.
