Have to imagine these types of lawsuits are the biggest danger to the survivability of the league - especially with TBI looming large.

I wonder if we could start to see a boom in soccer engagement if gridiron football/NFL gets sued into oblivion.

Quote

In a lawsuit filed Thursday in the District Court for the District of Maryland, 10 players – including two-time Pro Bowl running back Willis McGahee and Super Bowl XLII champion Jason Alford – said they were “seeking redress for the wrongful denial of benefits, the denial of statutorily mandated full and fair review of benefits denials, violations of plan terms or governing regulations, and breaches of fiduciary duty.”

Did this stick with anyone now that it's players we grew up with suing?

McGahee's injury was one of those "where were you" football moments when I was a kid. And his body is already failing him. Jesus.

antwaan randle el said he would not play this sport again if he could. He said he's dealing with memory loss. Domonique Foxworth said on a podcast that his dad is in better shape than he is right now. these are skill players saying this stuff, imagine what guys who played in the trenches are dealing with.

My nephew is starting soccer this year. I'd rather see him pursue that than football at this point.

Willis probably just needs more child support money.

Assuming you’re talking about his injury with The U. That was brutal.

Really high rate of concussion in youth soccer(especially girls). Not as high as football, but it’s high.

With, comparatively, about zero investment in research to reduce head injuries in soccer. Intuitively, I'd expect a low weight collision like a soccer ball to be something a helmet could make a far bigger difference with than the repeated car accidents that are high level football.

IMO it’s all about Newton’s second law of thermodynamics pertaining to force equaling mass times acceleration. If your kid isn’t a grown man specimen, keep him out of the league I coached in, which produced Will Allen who is the guy who inadvertently hurt McGahee (Wayne HS, home of Braxton Miller).

That said, I’d have zero hesitation to have him play in many of the smaller school leagues around here where you have a bunch of smaller and slower kids playing.

My brother and sister-in-law won't let my nephew play football. He plays soccer, hockey, basketball, and baseball, but no football.
