Spoiler

gg Kingram. Flipping to max pass, and then running the ball repeatedly with a 4th quarter deficit, was shocking behavior from the sim. Oh well.

Edit: and I guess I shouldn't say repeatedly, but this series killed it for me.

Possession now belongs to the Wattsville Waste Walruses.
Current score is Wattsville Waste Walruses 13, Phoenix Rubber Ducks 24.

Q4, 12:06, 1st & 10 on the WAT 25: Kyler Murray passes the ball to the outside and completes to Robert Woods for 13 yards. Tackle made by Tre'Davious White.
Q4, 11:39, 1st & 10 on the WAT 38: Aaron Jones rushes to the outside for a gain of 2 yards. Tackle made by David Onyemata.
Q4, 11:16, 2nd & 8 on the WAT 40: Aaron Jones rushes to the outside for a gain of 1 yard. Tackle made by Matthew Ioannidis.
Q4, 10:49, 3rd & 7 on the WAT 41: Melvin Gordon rushes up the middle for a gain of 4 yards. Tackle made by Alex Highsmith.
Q4, 10:14, 4th & 3 on the WAT 45: A.J. Cole III's punt landed in the endzone, Touchback.

Quote
Q2, 1:42, 1st & 10 on the TOK 48: Patrick Mahomes throws the ball deep and completes to Chase Claypool for 22 yards. Tackle made by Vonn Bell.
Q2, 1:16, 1st & 10 on the TOK 26: Patrick Mahomes throws the ball deep and completes to Nick Chubb for 21 yards. Tackle made by Marcus A. Williams.
Q2, 0:56, 1st & Goal on the TOK 5: Patrick Mahomes has no time due to Corey Linsley missing a block, and gets sacked by Kyzir White for a loss of 8 yards.
Q2, 0:27, 2nd & Goal on the TOK 13: Harrison Butker's field goal attempt good.

1st and goal with 56 seconds left on the 5. All we had time for was getting sacked for ~30 seconds (how long was Mahomes scrambling around for?!?) and then rush the FG unit out.

That being said, as brutal as our first half clock management was, that end of game clock management for Tokyo... rough.

Quote
Q4, 0:51, 2nd & 7 on the RJ 8: Dak Prescott passes the ball to the outside and completes to Tyler Lockett for 8 yards. Touchdown. Dak Prescott incomplete on two-point conversion attempt.

Q4, 0:40: Jake Elliott kicks an onside kick! Recovered by the Tokyo Samurai.

Possession now belongs to the Tokyo Samurai.
Current score is Tokyo Samurai 19, Rio de Janeiro Pirates 24.

Bear in mind, there's no time outs so that time is also in between plays.

That said, I do feel like I need to improve end of half and game FG evaluation, but building a full logic tree is daunting and I don't exactly have the time. At present, it will kick a FG if in range at 30 seconds or less in the 1st half (and <30 sec in the 4th quarter if trailing & 3 points is enough to tie or take the lead). This is because this is close to the maximum amount of time that can tick off on a play if the offense is in hurry up mode.. but it can definitely lead to some sub-optimal results (several times I've seen a team kick a FG prematurely at like 29 seconds, only for the other team to get a big play on their subsequent drive to get points of their own, which a real team would never allow to happen since they'd time it so the clock expires on the FG attempt).

And yeah, this is just RNG doing RNG things despite a huge modifier to passing in that situation. I probably could just allow for run chance to become zero in certain situations.

By the way: my favorite part of this game.

MVP: Jakob Johnson
Jakob Johnson: 2 carries for 7 yards (3.50 YPC, 5 LNG), 1 touchdown.
Jakob Johnson: 0 receptions for 0 yards (0.00 YPR, 0 LNG), 0 touchdowns.
Jakob Johnson: 4 pancakes.
David Onyemata: 6 tackles (1 stuff), 1 sack.
Carl Lawson: 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble.
Elandon Roberts: 7 tackles (3 stuffs).
Tre'Davious White: 5 tackles, 3 coverages, 1 interception.
Marshon Lattimore: 3 tackles, 6 coverages.
Adrian Amos: 5 tackles, 4 coverages.

In a game where his secondary absolutely shut down my passing game, where the above defensive players had big games, the MVP goes to... the FB.

It's just an formula based on bulk stats, weighted depending on the stat. The relevant weights here being:

  • pancakes (1.25 for FBs)
  • rushing yards (~0.05 for non-QBs)
  • rushing TDs (2.5 for non-QBs)
  • interceptions (4.0)
  • tackles (0.25)
  • stuffs (0.55 in addition to the tackle)
  • coverages (0.385)
  • sacks (2.75 in addition to the tackle)
  • forced fumbles (3.0 in addition to the tackle)

Jakob Johnson -> 0.35 (rushing yards) + 2.5 (rushing TD) + 5.0 (pancakes) = 7.85 value points
David Onyemata -> 1.5 (tackles) + 0.55 (stuff) + 2.75 (sack) = 4.8 value points
Carl Lawson -> 0.75 (tackles) + 2.75 (sack) + 3.0 (ff) = 6.5 value points
Tre'Davious White -> 1.25 (tackles) + 1.155 (coverages) + 4.0 (interception) = 6.405 value points

So, yeah - Jakob won because 4 pancakes is actually a sizable amount (although 7.85 is on the very low end for a game MVP, so it was moreso to do with just no one being all that impressive haha). Granted, some of the exact values are probably arguable and sometimes it does produce a weird result but it usually does a good job of picking out the standout player in a game alright (and over the course of a season, for that matter... the same formula is used to determine a team's offensive and defensive MVPs on the stats page)

Also while not relevant here, note that there's a couple stats that are tracked that aren't on a player's normal statline summary (notably, Gabriel Davis won MVP in the NZ/REY game over Pittman because he recovered one of his teammate's fumbles... I don't put fumble recoveries on offensive skill player's statlines though because I don't want to credit them for recovering their own fumbles)

I laughed at this too. Monster FB. Available for a 1st.
