General Tso
Looking for examples of good NFL players that fit the title description. I've always been of the opinion just look at the tape, but sometimes measurables boost rankings too.
BetterCallSaul
Lawrence Timmons was a huge winner from the NFL combine & actually ended up being pretty good as a pro. I remember people saying he was just a workout warrior…myself included. Idk…that was the first guy to come into my head.
goldfishwars
Off the top of my head, although Jason Kelce and George Kittle weren't taken early, they definitely put themselves on the map because of their combine performances.
goldfishwars
Byron Jones would probably fall into this category
Ozzy
Recently Dawson Knox, Maxx Crosby, Tariq Woolen all had great combines that helped show their elite athletic ability and all have been very good in the pros. Especially Knox who was nothing great at Ole Miss. Honestly if one shows elite athletic ability at the combine, regardless of their college play an NFL coach will think they can get more out of them with that skill set athletically. As long as they were just ok in college and showed a little ability. Hard to pass up raw athletic ability and that has happened a few times at TE especially when even guys who never played the position and played basketball have had success in the NFL. The other positions it is a little harder to pull that off. Chris Jones is a hard one to figure out, I think I had him maybe 2nd round or later as a pick. Could move great for a huge man but was nothing super standout at the combine, I had Nkemdiche, Buckner, J. Reed, A. Robinson over him. Now Chris Jones is arguably one of the best pass rushing DTs in the history of the NFL, dude is a super star and was never super productive on Mississippi State. Nkemdiche did out perform him at the combine but I kind of forget why Nkemdiche dropped, what nuts interviews or something and clearly he never turned out at all. MikeT14
Does Bruce Irvin count? He's a solid NFL career. I think he was a late Day 2 early Day 3 guy (in today's terms) before the combine. Edit: reading the parameters again, he doesn't count.

MWil23
Where was CJ2K before the combine? He was definitely a climber.

Jeezla
I think Patrick Willis and Khalil Mack were both considered early 2nds prior to the combine. A lot of people thought Luke Kuechly was too light and slow for round 1 prior to the combine. Terron Armstead was like a 5th round pick before the combine. I don't think anyone had Lane Johnson going top 10 prior to the combine Byron Jones was probably a 3rd round pick before the combine Joel Bitonio had a really good combine, but I don't really remember where his stock was at before the combine Ali Marpet was probably a 3rd rounder before the combine

He definitely wasn't a first round pick. Story from Titans camp was he wasn't really on the Titans radar and after his 40 time they went back and watched his tape. After watching his tape they saw first rd value
