They'll mess with him like they did Kirk Cousins.

By offering Payne the largest bonus a DT has been offered in history at that time?

Went both ways. Kirk was never resigning with Washington. Was going to market regardless.

Hope they can work out a trade for him to somewhere he wants to be and nets us the best possible return. He deserves to be paid. With Jon Allen already making bank, it doesn't make sense to have two very highly paid DTs.

It would be unfortunate to go down the franchise tag scenarios like they did with Kirk, but it is an option I guess. Daron played extremely well last year and it would hurt to lose him, but I think they braced for that last year when they drafted Phidarian Mathis..

Payne will either get a new deal like what J. Allen got, or he'll get traded. He's not doing the Cousins thing where he's tagged & playing on a 1-yr deal back-to-back seasons.

My guess is some team will trade their 1st round pick for Payne, or a 2nd & some change.

I would prefer to keep him, as he's a stud. But I understand you can't have & pay your D-line that kind of money across the board.

It worked out for Cousins and Scherff. Maybe Payne took notes.

What about using Payne in a package to move up in the draft to get a QB? Is that even something they can do? I'm not sure how trades work with franchised players.
