With Gallup here they bumped his dead cap figures to $13M in ‘24 and $9.25M in ‘25 up from $6M/$4M. That’s a pretty sizable jump and basically locks him in for the next two years. Also can be taken as a sign that they still see him as WR2 going forward which is the larger issue. You may have increased future dead cap because of the restructure, but you have also increased the amount of cap available to roll-over by that exact amount as well. If you do nothing with the money, it’s a net wash. You’re in the exact same position. So as soon as you know a player is going to make your roster this season, restructuring them makes sense. You don’t have to use the money, but it gives you the flexibility to if you want to.

You can spend $5M of that $7M and roll over more than you added to his ‘24 number, etc etc. I just think you should be judicious about who you do restructures with, unless you’re just gonna do everyone. This locks in Gallup for 2024 at $13M, same as it costs to cut him, which I don’t love. Tells you exactly who they see as the #2 to Lamb going forward

Gallup’s dead cap number could increase by $100M for all I care - it doesn’t matter if you get an extra $100M in cap space to roll over. Of all things to criticize the Cowboys for, drafting ain’t it. So our 2nd and 3rd round picks didn’t hit one year? Calm down, Bob. And it’s not like McGovern is a bust and out of the league. He won’t be on the team next year because Buffalo is giving him $24 Million. Tony Pollard is our starting RB, and Wilson is an absolute gem of a 6th round pick. I don’t think we need to reevaluate the effectiveness of our drafting because Trysten Hill wasn’t Aaron Donald at pick 58. Also our 2020 and 2021 years are out of the park HR’s so far It will be interesting to see where we are cap wise with the recent DLaw and Smith restructuring as well as Zeke release. I do think we might be trying to save some also to carry over to next year. I think that is a thing as well
