That wasn't meant to be an optimistic post.  That was talking about how futile things were.

Right, I undestand that. My point was anytime there is any potential semblence of hope, this organization clings to it as an excuse to turn a profit instead of embracing reality and trying to better themselves for future.

I've pretty much turned off all my caring for this team right now. I am stat watching Walker, though. He looks like he's starting to get back into the whole hitting thing.

Apathy. It has set in for the fan base. Its the worst thing that can happen to a franchise.

Now will that last into the start of next season? Not sure, but another underwhelming offseason and its just running it back with Mo and Oli, the fans are on the edge here. Its not 1992 where there is nothing else to keep peoples attention, eventually they will find something else to do with their limited disposable income.

Now, I still believe if they were honest, and said we have to actually hit the reset button for the first timenearly 3 decades, were going to run all the kids out there who we have been high on for years, and were brining in a real fan favorite to manage who's shown success with limited resources in Skip Schumaker, that the fans would support it for a year. Especially if they give the context of "we have to slash payroll till the Bally's stuff is figured out, and then we will bring it back up".

Maybe Im wrong, but I think the majority of fans would understand that, and support a young fun team, especially if they drop the dumb "Cardinal Way" crap, and let these guys have some fun. Worst thing that happens is they bottom out for a year or so, but that also comes with some major rewards in the draft and should help bouncing back quickly after that

Just now?  I've been done since like mid May.

Yup, I'm literally only watching to see the young guys and and if my over 84.5 wins somehow cashes (fully aware there's not a chance we only lose one more game the rest of the way).

Not sure if anyone saw Bob Nightengale's recent writings (I missed it, as it went udner the radar), but here it is:

'While John Mozeliak, president of baseball operations for the Cardinals, plans to step down after the 2025 season, special assistant Chaim Bloom is expected to have much greater authority next season, perhaps even become the top baseball decision maker.'

Its why they scooped him up, although Im not sure Mo thought it would be this quick when he did.

If they let Mo or Grisch make any decision next year it would be a mistake, they have no more investment in the team beyond '25 (you could argue they are already checked out) but it will be interesting to see what options Bloom or whoever even has with their hands so tied with payroll

The Steelers did this when our GM Kevin Colbert left. He stayed on one more year and it was a huge mistake. That's why we draft Kenny Pickett.

Ooooff, yea we dont need that.

You are paying these guys regardless, so maybe dont just send them on their way, but give them their offices on the other side of the building and only wheel them out when a statement needs to be made. Other than that, if you are seriously interested in Chaim (thats a larger discussion) just give him the reigns behind the scenes and let him use 2025 as his audition. So after that, wither he gets the full GM role, or you move on and start the hunt for an entire new Front Office

Went to 7 innings of this, my final game of the season.  Left in the 7th because I had to use the facilities, and I live like a 3 minute walk away, and we were horrible tonight.  At least they didn't trot out Matt Carpenter while I was there.

I think this is key.  We have maybe 4 players that are fun to watch (probably a stretch) that are younger than 30.  Build that fun team and people will buy in.  The current team is stagnant, and not fun to watch.

I really hope they don't ship Willson out. We need guys like him. He's the only solid older vet we have. Also, the FO should be embarrassed about the quality of the product. I'm glad he said what he said.

There is 0% chance they move Contreras. He's by far our best hitter and has been one of the most productive hitters in all of baseball since the 2023 ASB when healthy.

They would loose this fan base if they did that.
