You do know if it wasn't for a complete lapse by the Rockies bullpen through the Spring and early Summer they would have the best record in the NL, right? I'm not saying they're a better team than the Cardinals, they're on par with one another. Neither is significantly better than the other.

I can play hypotheticals too. If it hadn't been for the hot, stinking pile of garbage that was Matheny, we'd have 162 wins? How about that?

And if the Cardinals had Mike Shildt as their manager for the entire season, we'd be talking about the Cardinals with the top record in the NL.  Instead, we're not going to waste time with silly hypotheticals.  St. Louis has a +77 run differential, while Colorado has a +17 run differential.  Since August 1st, the Cardinals are 32-18 while the Rockies are 29-21.

And yes, baseball is a game of streaks and the Rockies had one of the most impressive runs in baseball this season. That's why they play a 162 game schedule, and the sample size says these two teams are neck-and-neck, and one is not significantly better than the other.

Come on bud, don't use the could've/should've/would've argument, it's purely speculative and quite frankly ridiculous.

There are about 5 teams that could make that same argument in the NL. The Carfinals being one.

Well, this about worst case scenario for us now.

We're a game back with three to go. Basically we have to sweep to get in barring Colorado collapsing.

Oh, and the Cubs now have something to play for in trying to hold onto 1st place since we gifted 3 games to Milwaukee.

We need the Giants to take 2 of 3 from the giants or sweep them to even have a chance.

Not feeling great about it.
