Rookies reported last week, and TC officially begins on Wednesday the 26th!

What position battles are you excited for?

Left Guard
Ted Larsen vs Isaac Asiata

Ted Larsen joins his 5th team in 8 years with experience playing LG, C, and RG. The 30-year-old veteran is the favorite to start over rookie 5th round pick Isaac Asiata, but may be a valuable backup interior lineman. The rest of the OL is penciled in as: Tunsil - Larsen/Asiata - Pouncey - Bushrod - James.

Nickel CB
Byron Maxwell is one of the presumed starters on the boundary, with Xavien Howard the favorite to win the other spot. Tony Lippett has had a promising career trajectory, but I don't think he's suited particularly well to play in the slot. Bobby McCain was the primary nickel last year, but left something to be desired. 3rd round rookie Cordrea Tankersley might be in the mix, but he's a lengthy corner at 6'1" and I don't think he sees much play time this year.

Backup DT
Julius Warmsley vs Nick Williams vs Davon Godchaux vs Vincent Taylor

Two veterans with a total of 24 tackles in 6 combined seasons, and two late round rookies. Who spells Suh and Philips?

The Miami Herald is reporting the LB Koa Misi will not be ready for training camp, as he is still recovering from neck surgery.

LB Raekwon McMillan is the favorite to replace Misi's snaps. If Misi falls behind and McMillan seizes the starting SOLB job, the coaching staff might not look back.

Misi hasn't played a full 16 game season since his rookie year.

Another interesting battle is the WR position outside of Landry, Stills, and Parker.

  • Leonte Carroo
  • Rashawn Scott
  • Jakeem Grant
  • Isaiah Ford
  • Drew Morgan

Scott, Ford, and Morgan are all still PS eligible. I'm pretty sure Scott and even Carroo are still as well.

If Grant holds on to the return job during camp, he is all but guaranteed a spot. If Landry or Drake are returning kicks or punts.. he should start sweating.

Gase held a press conference today. No major news but some tidbits:

  • WR Rashawn Scott will open TC on PUP
  • Misi and Pouncey are not yet cleared but will not start on PUP
  • Team has been kicking tires on veteran CBs, "just getting ducks in a row"

Gase also seems to be getting slightly annoyed at all the Tannehill knee questions.

  • Both Raekwon McMillan and Mike Hull have been getting reps at starting MLB. Both have generally been in the nickel alongside Kiko Alonso
  • Bobby McCain has mostly started at slot CB, with Michael Thomas the current primary backup, although the new signee at CB may start to see time there

Injuries:

  • Reshad Jones (calf) has been taken off the NFI (non-football injury) list and practiced
  • The Miami Herald confirmed Ajayi suffered a concussion Monday, and will be out at least a week
  • Rookie WR Isaiah Ford may have meniscus damage in a knee possibly requiring surgery
  • OT Terry Poole continues to sit out (back)

Camp Notes 8/2:

  • Rookie DT Davon Godchaux played next to Phillips with the 1s (Suh rest day)
  • OL remains: Tunsil - Larsen - Urbik (Pouncey) - Bushrod - James. This seems to be plan A and hasnt changed much at all. Steen seems to be the primary OG backup but has also played with the 1s at C. Asiata has been mostly working with the 3s and not performing very well.
  • Grant still seems to have butterfingers, but others (Drake and Landry) have also muffed some punts.

Bad words formed in my mouth.

Between the Tannehill knee scare and the Jay Ajayi concussion, things aren't going well for the Dolphins right now in camp lol

And the Larsen bicep tear.  And Asiata reportedly looking like crap.  Sigh.
