I would say mine is Juan Thornhill.

We weren’t going to go into the season depending on a rookie. We had to get a vet at FS.

I’ve liked Juan since he was at Virginia. He’s a true center field guy and in this single high defense we’re be playing a lot you need that!

I think having a true FS is going to raise the level of play of Grant and the rest of our corners because they actually have legit help over the top.

I think Juan to our defense is like when a basketball team trades for a high level point guard and they raise up the efficiency of the entire team. I think that’s what’s going to happen to our defensive backfield. Juan isn’t a star player, but his skill set is going to be that puzzle piece we’ve needed.

I’ve liked a lot of it.

Tomlinson is probably my favorite just because it was such a glaring need last season.

I think Moore was a great get just because of the value/cost.  He absolutely fits a need and was cheap.

Obo is a wildcard.  He’s the guy with the most possible upside/value.  If he continues to play like he did once he became a starter last season he’ll be the best FA signing any team made this year most likely. Big if though.

Thornhill was fine.  He’s what we need, meh player on a meh contract.

Any time Berry traded a pick for a player I’m relieved since he isn’t very good at drafting, even if Moore is an underachieving diva who is a me guy who so far hasn’t cared about winning.

I think the jury is still out in regards to Berry's drafting.

He's been solid hitting on offensive players. Some of the defensive players haven't played well, but look who was coaching them the past three years.

Let's look at the offensive players he's drafted...

Wills - Average tackle. Disappointing for a top 10 pick, but I think his struggles are more mental. This will be a huge year for him.

Bryant - Solid backup TE. Good pick for the fourth round.

Harris - Looked ready to become the starting center until getting hurt and Pocic took over. Solid backup at least.

DPJ - Great pick in the sixth round. At worst he's a decent #2.

Schwartz - Bum. One of Berry's worst picks. I guess the jury isn't totally out on him yet, but I have no expectations for Schwartz at this point.

Hudson - Solid swing tackle. Solid pick in the middle of the draft.

Felton - meh. Fine for a 6th round pick.

Bell - we'll see. Probably taken too early but who knows.

Ford - We'll see what he does as a backup to Chubb. He flashed when given chances though.

Woods - Again, we'll see. Too early to say.

Deaton - doubt he ever gets much playing time unless Pocic and Harris are hurt.

Like I said, too early to say for some of these guys, but I think he's been solid at hitting on offensive players. Maybe some of his defensive draft picks will look better once they don't have a nincompoop coaching them.

He’s not here to be reasonable right now, just to rant

“it takes 3 years to evaluate a draft” is the common line and he’s only had 3 years and the first class took place in the middle of a pandemic.

I’m not saying he’s anything good or bad, as you said it’s too early, but some folks just want to be reactionary. 🤷‍♂️

Juan Thornhill is going to play more "SS" than you think. He was a true cornerback in college and a lot of NFL teams were looking at him staying there in the NFL. He's definitely a better centerfielder than Delpit right now, but as far as which safety would I want rolling down to cover a slot WR in Cover 1 looks? That'd be Thornhill. In single high looks, I'd think Thornhill plays close to 70% of those reps, but not all of them. He's valuable in man coverage too.

I think most teams value that versatility in their safeties more than some fans want to admit.

I think the days of a 3rd linebacker type SS paired with a centerfielder type FS are largely over. Both safeties need to be able to play in space as well as fill gaps in the run game.  If you can’t do both reasonably well offenses are good enough to exploit the weakness.

The best move was firing Joe Woods.

All the player signings have targeted specific needs and make total sense.

My OTHER most favorite move started last offseason when we signed Deshaun, but didn't come into full bloom until this offseason when it appears the end game is the Rats will be losing their franchise QB........

Howz it feel, Baltimore to get the shaft from the North Coast? Screw you, and everything connected to your team - now and forever...

I’d love to know if this was just a bit of luck or if they knew when they were putting the deal together how big of an issue this would be for the Ravens and Bengals

Im sure they knew it would have an impact, but I’m mean specifically if they knew that it would almost assuredly lead to Lamar asking for a trade because the Ravens wouldn’t meet his demands.

What it really boils down to for me is Lamar is an elite runner and an average passing QB. Since elite passing QBs are difficult to find, the Rats decided they weren't going to pay elite QB money to an average passing QB.
