As We Get Closer To The Draft Who Is Over-Hyped?

Every years some players get pushed up, at least in the press, due to really good combine numbers or a weakness at a certain position.  Just based on what I have been reading lately:

DT Mazi Smith:  He is big and really strong but he has .5 sacks in three seasons and credited with 2.5 TFL each of the last two years.  Some folks are talking abut him getting late-first round consideration?  The only reason that could be happening is that this isn't a great DT class.

WR-All of them:  It is a good thing Brad Holmes got Jameson Williams last year.  This year's class of WRs is not great.  There are some guys that will be good as slot WRs like Jordan Addison but there doesn't seem to be a dominant X-WR or Z-WR in the first round.

CB Deonte Banks:  Prior to the combine he was rated as a 2d-round prospect by a lot of sites.  Yes, he ran a 4.35 40 at the combine and has good size at 6'0" and 197 Lbs.  However, he has 2 career interceptions over 4-years.  I don't think teams were afraid to test the Maryland defense.  He seems to be getting pushed up on nothing more than his "triangle numbers".

Nolan Smith:  Full disclosure:  I like Nolan Smith as a prospect so I am not objective.  He is an athletic marvel like most UGA defensive players.  However, did he really play up to those traits?  He was used as more of a pass-rush LB but he didn't have a Khalil Mack type of impact.  People keep trying to peg him as a pass-rusher but he is more of an off-the-ball LB with pass rush skills than a true EDGE to me.  Like a lot of UGA players, his top-shelf athleticism covered for some unpolished skills in college but that won't cut it once he is drafted.

Who do you see as over-hyped?  Thoughts?

I've said it multiple times but Jalen Carter is the most over-hyped player in this draft even without the accident and work ethic concerns. His production and game tape just do not match the can't miss persona he's been given. I've literally seen prospect breakdowns claim he has no weaknesses... Then why the hell didn't he have better production in college? Why didn't he stand out on tape? Why did he disappear for multi game stretches?

Even if he was squeaky clean and had a literal halo over his head I wouldn't take him in the first round.

But of course just because I said that we're going to take him at 6 so I hope I'm wrong about him.

Personally, I think his career arc could look a lot like Robert Nkemdiche or Charles Rogers.  That isn't the type of risk we need to take or the type of player we need to add to the locker room.

Anthony Richardson. Every year there is a player whose combine and pro day ends up being regarded higher than their film they produced as a player in college. I believe this years is Anthony Richardson. Last year it was Malik Willis for us fans. During last years mocks, fans were clamoring for him to be picked in the top 10. He ended up getting drafted where he should have and Malik's on field production is reminiscent of his film tape. Now I get these are two vastly different players with different issues, but at the end of the day the buy on AR is his athletic ability, and that's it. It's definitely not his accuracy. It's not his college winning %. It's not his progressions, it's his athletic ability and that is all.

I think at best he'll be a Vince Young type player, but that will be his ceiling and he'll be out of the league in 7 years. Which doesn't sound bad, until you factor in that several of those seasons you will see a little flash, but not much else and he'll back up someone and some team will take a flyer on him after his rookie contract is up ...because of those measureables.

I think he should be a second round pick at best and would be a fine pick for a backup. If he develops more that that than awesome, you lucked out. But I don't think anything points to him being a franchise type qb.
