After years of discussing whether the careers of both Favre and Rogers were hamstrung by mediocre WR rooms, I am finding this new debate about whether GB should pay elite young WR's quite amusing. Lack of talent at WR was always the goto argument for the ARDS.

When we are running isolation routes guys had to win individual matchups for any play to work. Randall cobb and lazards inability to create separation were certainly a problem for AR.

Mlfs scheme features a lot more of jordan having to find the breakdown in coverage.

If they had + WR rooms for most of their careers, why are we debating whether elite young WR's should be paid?

The problem is if you pay elite wr a couple things happen. The room becomes top heavy, and there is pressure to feed certain guys. The Packers WR room is better off right now than the eagles and the rest of the roster is better for it.

The point that you are missing is that WR shouldn't be treated like a premium position like it is because a depth of "good" options is better than a top heavy roster with a "great" option, and that because we is so dependent on QB and OL, the current salary of high end WR makes it a bad idea to invest heavily in them.

If the offense is going to be reliant on coverage breakdowns, then by all means, we should go cheap at WR.

Caused by a legitimate run threat, PA, motion, playcalling.

CIN is basically living this WR scenario we are discussing right now.  Higgins is a high end WR2, and they have an elite WR in Chase who is coming up for extension.  What should they do?

Trade higgins this year. Let chase play out his contract then tag and trade him.

I guess we now have the WR version of MacReady's don't pay QB's rule.

I'd trade both and use the picks to overload the room.

Damn, offenses will be hard to run when no second contracts are given to decent QB's, RB's or WR's

You can't pay everyone. RB clearly isn't worth top end money and the market shows that. WR, depth is more important than having top guys and paying 1-2 top guys hurts your ability to have the flexibility to spread the ball around. I don't see why you are having such a a hard time understanding this concept and instead are spouting hyperbolic BS like this

Overload the room?  What do you honestly think the return would be?  Take a look at the Montez Sweat trade if you want to know the answer.

There should be no doubt that OL makes the thing go.

Chase will probably retrieve a top 20 pick and a 2nd or 3rd.

Higgins could probably net a 2nd or early 3rd.
