Bobby816
I'm a huge Jim Brown fan. But it is hard to say he's the best NFL player ever. I do think if he played longer he would be right there with Rice and Brady though as the best ever. SB rings doesn't exactly equal incredible talent. Especially if you're not a QB, bc there's only so much you can do at other positions. So what I will say is that Jim Brown is the most talented NFL player ever but not the best NFL player ever. lancerman
Jerry Rice stat padded. He's the best WR ever, but it's not because of his bulk numbers. It's because of his incredible play in the first portion of his career and the impact he had on the field then. There were two Jerry Rices. The Jerry Rice who played from 1985-1995 who was lights out guaranteed plus 1000 yards and double digit TD's in his sleep. Then the Jerry the last 8 years of his career who was like the 3rd or 4th best WR in the league in the good years, who was still good enough to be on a team and put up respectable but not great numbers. Rice was a legend his first 11 years. That's what makes him the GOAT. If he never played those last 8 years he'd still be the GOAT even without the bulk stats. Because that's what people think of when they think of Jerry Rice. The stats are just an interesting factoid.
AFlaccoSeagulls
It's hard looking at stats because there are guys like Jerry Rice who played 20 years in the NFL and then guys like Calvin Johnson who played 9, or guys like Patrick Willis who retired in their prime. If you're looking at overall body of work, it's really hard to argue against Jerry Rice and just how freaking dominant individually he was at a position where you really don't have a lot of control over your own production. Well look at Jim Brown. He played 9 seasons and 118 games. Emmitt Smith played 15 seasons and 226 games and he's the all time leader in yards and touchdown. Jim Brown is largely considered the greatest football player to ever live. Most people don't even put Emmitt in the top 3 RB's. As it pertains to Rice, if Rice's entire 20 years were like his last 8, he'd still be the leader in everything, but he'd be like Emmitt Smith. It's his first 11 years that make him the dominant receiver everyone thinks of him as.

Taylor is the reason the league put a premium on blindside protectors, a guy with his speed and power was unheard of during that period and was a threat to your QB if he was left unchecked. Taylor was also a guy who really didn't take care of himself - you could feasibly say the drugs and alcohol held back what he could have done. Aztec Hammer
It's Tom. No player has more Super Bowl wins and appearances in NFL history. He has won separate championships on 53 men rosters with 52 entirely different team mates. He will likely finish ranked 1st in every major QB statistic. He is 20 touchdowns away from being responsible for the most in NFL history across all positions and all games. He has won the most regular season games in NFL history. Comfortably. He has won the most postseason games in NFL history. Comfortably. In other words, he is the most successful player at achieving the sole objective of the game. The greatest player in NFL history? It's quite simple. Don't overthink it. Now if you want to get nuanced and have a most talented in a vacuum sort of debate, that's fairer game.
