Steelers Biggest Weakness?

In your opinion, what is the current Steelers biggest Weakness?

I'm saying QB. Steelers were stagnant at the QB position as they've bet all their money on Kenny Pickett. They brought back the same two backups from last season who lack the same game experience as Pickett minus Mitch Trubisky.

Omar Khan will watch KP this season and if there isn't significant growth in all areas from Pickett, then I think a QB will be brought in next season. This is one of the more complete teams the Steelers have fielded in quite a while so hopefully they don't waste it waiting for our QB to quickly develop.

Yea people don’t wanna hear that but it’s definitely possible.

However I think even if he struggles, they’ll fire Canada, bring in someone else and continue upgrading around Pickett for another season.

I’ll give an answer no one wants to hear (mostly because I think the Pickett angles is so overplayed he’s almost underrated now):

Wide Receiver.

At best DJ is the 22nd best WR1 in the NGL. His concentration drops, lack of movement after the catch, hit shyness, and general lack of awareness at times kills him. At worse he’s the worse outside WR that starts, especially when he’s in a butterfingers phase.

George Pickens has the traits you want in a WR1. But he doesn’t really separate meaning majority of passes thrown his way risk INT-WR. On top of that his route running isn’t super crisp. At worst he’s a good 50/50 boundary guy.

Allen Robinson could rebound as a big slot or he could be done for. And if he’s done for he better provide guidance. But likely he’s a 1-and-done WR for us.

I know some people want to bang the table for Calvin Austin, but truth is he’s a complete unknown. He was a likely small contributor last year anyways so expecting big things from him is iffy. And personally I think if he isn’t going to contribute with KR/PR responsibilities and he’s only a gadget player he’s useless. Like Percey Harvin but without the good part.

Then after that you have a bunch of GD jags on the roster. Gunner, Miles, and other dudes.

So put Kenny first all you want but if some of these things happen I don’t see how you can blame the QB.

The Kenny takes are wild to me. He is going to ball out this year.

I will say our biggest weakness will be our interior pass coverage. Slot WRs, tight ends, and running backs could eat us alive in the passing game right now. We do not have a LB on the roster who could be considered above average against the pass, Duke Dawson vs Chandler Sullivan competition at slot CB, and Kazee/Neal at safety.

Edmunds and Sutton were our answers last year and neither were properly replaced. It’s why I think Isiah Simmons could be a real possibility if the price is right. And by that I mean Omar fleecing them for Dotson and/or a 6th.

On paper it's ILB.

I will say this - If Kenny struggles (don't think he does), it's QB, because significant uncertainty will cloud everything about the future.
If he has a middling type performance, say 18 TD 10 INT and a 9/7 record, I think there will be concerns about how 'franchise' he really is.
Again, not saying I think this will happen, I think he'll show a lot of improvement, but if he does struggle...

I hope your right….but I seriously doubt he balls out.

I don’t question that’ll be an average QB…I just question that he can be a top 5-7 QB and plus Canada being here doesn’t inspire confidence either.

@warfelg WR is a strength in my opinion. Johnson is a true #1 WR. He doesn't need to be schemed. He can out-athlete any CB he faces.

Pickens is still developing as a route runner but his natural rawness is special. He has that 'it factor".

Robinson should be a solid possession WR who makes contested catches routinely over the middle of the field.

Wild cards are Austin and Butler. Both are exceptional athletes relative to their size.

I see WR as a strength for this team.

I think the take "he's going to ball out" is much "wilder" than thinking he might be one of our weaker spots.

Not necessarily saying youre wrong, and in fact, really hope you arent, but its a very reasonable take to have extremely modest expectations for him based on a) what he showed last year, even with the flashes, and b) the fact that Matt Canaduh is returning, which alone makes me question Kenny's development.

But again, I hope your optimism pays off.   I just dont see it.   I expect him to improve, but I think his statline, at best, will be similar to Ben’s rookie year.   Which would be good enough to earn him another year as starter,  but not really "balling out".

KP will be better, not much of a concern there. Of course , canada might have more to do with this than anything. Really, the most suspense to this 23 season is what will canada effect be in 23. If the run game and OL gets going , then play action and as a result more WR's are open, this could be prime TV. No KC like of course, but much better than what we have seen for the last several years.

I will add some context that I don’t see him “balling out” in the sense of throwing for 5000 yards and 40 touchdowns. But I think we will see a much better version of what we saw last year, he will put us in a position to win the division, and he’ll cement himself as our no doubt QBOTF….and will be very very far from being our biggest weakness, or considered a “weakness” at all.

Tanner Muse is a former Safety that was drafted to be a coverage LB.  I hadn't followed him after the Draft.  How was he utilized, if at all, in Seattle?
