Which three 2024 Prospects...

are you most interested in watching for the Steelers (sorry, I'm bored)?

I'm curious about :

DL     M.Smith LSU (6'6 296)

ILB    B.Carter, Clemson (6'1 225)
SS    J.Williams, Miami (6'5 224)

I love WR Harrison Jr, but he'll obviously be long gone by the time we pick.

too interested in the 23 season to care about 24 right now.   where do you think we will be drafting?

Fair enough. As I said I was bored.
I think we're picking more like 22-32.

nice to see the 32 in the equation  B| I have hihg expectations for sure, it should be a good season.

see who leaves next year, if we keep Alex, then no need for Edge early anyways.  Maybe a player falls to us at 32 again ;)

My early watch list is:

Rome Odunze WR Washington - I know some people keep scoffing at my WR concerns but I think thats because there's a lot of focus on the upside of this group and not the floor.

Emeka Egbuka WR Ohio State - He's very overlooked because of MHJ but this dude is legit too.  Again, WR is very much a concern for me.

Michael Hall Jr Ohio State - A touch undersized as an interior guy but I think as a pass rushing DE-DT type guy in the mold of Cam he could really make a difference.

Cooper Beebe OL Kansas State - Continuing to build in the trenches, 2024 will be the final year of Chucks, Moore, Daniels, and Mason's contracts; so I would not put it past Khadl to look at an OL player with OG/OT flexibility.

Cooper DeJean CB Iowa - He's got really good size and mobility.  I wouldn't mind bringing him in and possibly moving him to a hybrid Dime-coverage-Backer/SS type role.

Donovan Jackson OL Ohio State - See the same reasoning with Cooper Beebe.

Jack Sawyer DL Ohio State - I'm going to throw an interesting one to you here.  He's really a linebacker like Micah Parsons (I know he's going full time DE this year) in that he's so good at rushing the passer you kinda want him to do that, but at the same time he's really good at covering too so you aren't loosing out on anything by having him do that.  I would take a risk on him being the ILB of the future despite never playing the position traditionally.

I dont think anyone would scoff at it being a potential major need next year.

I think most people just didnt want to invest a high pick this year with as many needs as we had, on top of several other factors, such as Canada returning, hopes for guys like Austin and a seeming major focus on the running game going into 23, which will reduce targets.

However, WR in 24 is another story.    We will have a clearer picture on guys like Pickens and Austin, and there is a good chance both Robinson and DJ are gone next year.   Oh, and hopefully Canada is gone too.

I will repeat my Justin Jefferson to Steelers tirade even more than @3rivers begging for Justin Houston to come to the Steelers schtick til I will It into exsistence.

Jefferson would command top salary, could be afford it ?  Houston they could afford, still can afford actually if someone gets hurt . Jefferson is top WR, and will reset the market   but  should help out an offence even with canada calling the plays

You should look at the weakest position groups thread. And you’re also correlating something that isn’t my point with it. Not drafting a WR high in 2023 has little to do with it potentially being a big need in 2024.

Newsflash....this is a thread about 2024 prospects and you claimed people are scoffing at your WR concerns.   I made the comment based on the face value of what you said pertaining to the topic.

And where are all the people "scoffing" at WR being a need?   In the thread you cited, literally one person mildly "scoffed" at the notion.   Which is why I raised the point that most people just didnt want to draft WR high this past draft....not necessarily because it isnt potentially a major need,  but because we had NUMEROUS major needs, and drafting WR high year after year whilst bypassing other needs hasn't gotten us very far.

So yes, WR could be a weakness this year.    But if we had drafted WR high, OT or CB very likely would have been the weakness.   At the very least there is some talent on the WR corps, even if its not the top 5 unit.   More faith in the current WR unit than I would have had in the OLine or especially the CB corps if we hadnt addressed those early.

I’m not getting into all of this again but peoples reasoning for not wanting a WR varied from the group is good, to too many needs, to we’ve spent too many picks on it.

In the end I’m fine with how it turned out but I felt WR was a need going into the offseason and still feel it’s a need coming out.
