Training Camp 2023

Last year the story was Wink's defense dominating the practice field and making the offense look silly. This year the offense looks much better. Wink has thrown a lot at them so far, but they've managed. Having Waller out there seems to make a world of difference. He's extremely difficult to cover.

It bears mentioning that many of the offense's gains have come at the expense of Deonte Banks. He's definitely having his "welcome to the NFL" moments out there, but I'm not discouraged by that. He will have lots of time to develop.

Camp mysteries include "why is Schmitz not getting exclusively first-team reps?," "will Ezeudu ever win the starting job at guard?," and "does Bryce Ford-Wheaton have any chance of making the team?"😁

1. I have no problem with open competition. He’s a second round pick, not a top 10 pick. There’s adjustment for all rookies.

2. I think so.

3.  The receivers are pretty locked in.

1. Slayton 2. Shepard 3. Hyatt 4. Hodgins 5. Campbell. You’ll have Beasley and Crowder fighting until Wandale gets activated. That’s 6 receivers. Colin Johnson and Ford-Wheaten need to ball out in the preseason take any shot. The practice squad is where they’ll be.

Was just thinking about this. We have a lot of receivers right now, but the top 5 are locked in, and there is a small chance they don't even carry more than 5. If they do, I think Beasley wins the 6th spot as Wan'Dale slot insurance. He's got experience in Daboll's offense, and apparently the Giants were trying to sign him last year, but he ended up going back to the Bills and regretted it. That's according to Art Stapleton, who sat down with him.

I was trying to do a roster prediction last night, and I really think there are only 4 spots that are up in the air. I think the following is locked in:

QB: DJ, Tyrod

RB: Saquon, Breida, Gray, Brightwell

WR: Slayton, Shep, Hodgins, Campbell, Hyatt

TE: Waller, Bellinger, Cager

OT: Thomas, Neal, Tyre Philips

OG: Bredeson, Glowinski, Ezeudu, Lemieux, Mckethan

C : JMS

That's 23 on offense.

DL: Dex, Leo, A'Shawn, Nacho

EDGE: Thibs, Azeez, Haddy, Ximines

LB: Okereke, Mcfadden, Beavers, Brown, Coughlin

CB: Adoree, Banks, Hawkins, Flott, Holmes

S: Mckinney, Pinnock, Belton, McCain, McCloud

That's 23 on defense.

I think we carry an additional OT, WR, DL, and EDGE. The favorites for those have got to be Peart, Beasley, Davidson (if he comes off PUP soon, Ryder Anderson if not), and Tomon Fox. But I wouldn't be surprised to see those be filled by other players or maybe through waiver wire claims after the initial 53 cutdowns.

I don't think Oruwariye makes it, and I think Aaron Robinson starts on PUP yet again, and if the CB room is relatively healthy by week 6, we just cut him loose. The only player of the 5 I have making the team I'd even maybe take him over is Holmes.
