Joe Thomas - Our HOFer

His accomplishments are always going to be overshadowed by the fact that he never played in the playoffs.

Thomas had multiple opportunities to leave for a contender. It became too late to do so when he got hurt in 2017.

This leads to this lesson. If you have an opportunity to get out of Dodge, take it. If you don't you will regret it.

He didn’t leave because Joe is loyal and Cleveland had become his home. Joe wanted to win for us and this team, not himself

I've learned numerous times that loyalty can be costly. And it was definitely costly in this case. Thomas had a chance to avoid being the Archie Manning of LTs (like Thomas, Archie never made the playoffs, a stark contrast to his sons Peyton and Eli who each won two Super Bowls). Look at Ray Borque. He spent two decades with the Boston Bruins, and never won a Stanley Cup with them. He requested a trade to a Cup contender, which ended up being the Avalanche, and it paid off - he won the Cup in his final season as a player.

If I were in Thomas' shoes, I would have requested a trade to a contender after the 2016 season, with the hope of finally playing in a playoff game.
