So is Dane Jackson 3rd in the CB2 race? Most practice reports have said that he has played the most snaps at CB2. Also Tommy Doyle is the backup LT, but Quessenberry has been the primary back up camp so far. A couple other head scratchers too. Sometimes McDermott gets a little too cute.

I think In these two particular cases it’s “we know what we have in Dane and Quess, let’s see how Doyle and Benford/Elam do against higher competition and live game action.

Good point. Maybe they also want to showcase some fringe roster guys for a potential trade like Beane has done numerous times in the past on some players he was going to cut.

It bothers me if Dane Jackson is the best we can do at CB2 for the 3rd year in a row. I don't hate him but I feel like his peak is being average. Sure he makes some plays but he also lets up a ton of receptions and yardage when he doesn't make the play. There has to be something there with Elam or Benford that can project them up to a consistent CB2.

He’s the new Levi Wallace.

But Benford or Elam should be able to beat him out.

Given how he played last year and how he's looked in camp coupled with his draft position, Elam needs to be CB2. He just needs to be.

Elam is obviously the most talented CB between Benford and Jackson, but I think the reason why he hasn't run away with the job is because of the defensive scheme. He is much better suited for press man and McDermott runs more zone concepts. I think Beane and McDermott are trying to put a square peg into a round hole here.
