"Hue Jackson will remain our coach and will return for the 2018 season but we feel it is necessary to take significant steps to strengthen our personnel department. We have begun the process of having productive conversations regarding leadership of our football operations and will provide further updates when appropriate. We thank Sashi for all his hard work and dedication to the Cleveland Browns."

I disagree that Brown doesn’t have talent evaluation skills. The Browns roster under him has added a lot of talent, I think it’s the coaching that has failed more than anything.

That’s a lot of high quality ingredients for the coaches to cook with. Unfortunately they aren’t qualified to work in a McDonald’s kitchen.

But I wouldn’t really be bringing him in as a talent evaluator, strictly, either. Both Spielman and Zimmer have mentioned in the past that there’s a place for analytics, so why not get someone who’s done well with it? Brown did a great job using analytics to work the draft board and trade players. Bring him in as a specialist with those types of moves, similar to how we have Brzynski for negotiating and writing contracts.

Once the position gets filled, this will be the Browns’ 5th GM/President of Football Operations since Jimmy Haslam purchased the team...in 2012.

That’s the real reason the Browns continuously suck. There’s zero patience from the ownership to actually build and develop a team.

And it’s going to be interesting to see if any high profile GM candidate will want to join the Browns, despite their cap situation and their riches in draft picks.

That's fair.  Although, the Vikings already have an analytics guy, Scott Kuhn.

I think the Browns did an excellent job over the last 2 years. I don't know who was in charge of what or who had final say, but they cut dead weight, loaded up on young talent and still have a ton of picks coming. It was always going to be a 3+ year rebuild to start from nothing.

They are set up great for the future and whoever goes there next has a ton to work with, IF Haslam stops screwing everything up. He probably won't though.

I would be happy bringing Sashi in as an assistant, especially if Paton leaves.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Browns “have eyes on” John  Dorsey after vetting candidates behind the scenes. With the Giants already in the hunt for a G.M., clearing Brown out of the way now would enable the Browns to move quickly to hire Dorsey if they feel they’d risk losing him.

Yes, but Kuhn’s analytics has more to do with scouting. I’d be more interested in Brown’s use of analytics in the business side of things, trade values, etc.

I don't think that's enough of a job to warrant bringing someone else in.  That's the equivalent (at least in my mind) of hiring someone full-time to do your spring-cleaning.  They'd spent 3/4 of the year twiddling their thumbs watching your tv.  There are so few trades done to warrant such a position.

Feel bad for Sashi Brown. No patience, as others have said, from Haslam.

I don't feel bad for him...I actually good for him, because he gets out of that nonsense.  Hue Jackson should have been the one to get fired, considering he can't lead a horse to the water, let alone drink it, instead he leads them to the desert.

I agree that Jackson should have been the one to go. It takes a while to clean up that mess but there has been no on the field production.

What gm is going to come on with Jackson as a coach.  Or will the gm keep Jackson for this year while he brings in some new players? There is a lot of draft picks to work with
