53 Roster Prediction

QB (2) - Howell, Brissett

Left out: Fromm

- Despite Fromm's game winning drive against the Ravens he's a journeyman practice squader that isn't worth a roster spot.

HB (4) - Robinson, Gibson, Rodriguez, Williams

Left out: Patterson

- Robinson and Gibson are locks, Rodriguez gets the nod because he's on a rookie contract. Williams makes the roster because he plays ST. They also carried 4 RBs last year so there's precedent there. Patterson doesn't make it unless there's an injury, and actually they'd probably carry a 7th WR before keeping Patterson so he's probably a long shot.

FB (0) - none

Left out: Alex Armah

- Don't see us carrying a dedicated FB.

TE (4) - Thomas, Bates, Turner, TBD?

Left out: Hodges

- I think we need to carry 4 TEs with Thomas' injury history and the lack of a FB on the roster. The issue is I don't know if we have that person currently on the roster. Thomas, Bates and Turner are locks.  I think we pick someone up during cuts from another team to add a 4th here.

WR (6) - McLaurin, Dotson, Samuel, Brown, Kemp, Allen

Left out: Milne, Pringle, Tinsley

- The top 4 are locks. Allen takes Milne's spot as the primary KR. Pringle and Tinsley lose out to Kemp's 6'4" frame that can contribute more on ST. Tinsley heads to the PS. We could go 7 here if they wanted to.

OT (4) - Leno, Wylie, Lucas, Daniels

Left out: no one of interest.

- These 4 are all locks as the top 3 are all entrenched in their spots and Daniels is a 4th round pick.  I think Daniels will eventually end up a Guard though.

IOL (5) - Cosmi, Paul, Gates, Charles, Stromberg

Left out: Larsen, Brooks

- Cosmi, Paul and Stromberg are all locks to make the roster, and whoever wins the starting job between Paul and Charles is too. I think its more likely they would go 6 here than cut someone like Charles for Larsen or Brooks.  Brooks likely ends up on the PS.

Offense Total: 25

DE (5) - Sweat, Young, Smith-Williams, Henry, Jones

Left out: Toohill, Bradley-King

- Sweat and Young are locks. Smith-Williams has the most prior sack production of any of the backups. I think they have to hang on to Henry and Jones simply because of their contracts. If they don't literally every DE we have would be expiring at the end of this year.

DT (5) - Allen, Payne, Mathis, Ridgeway, Obada

Left out: no one of interest

- The top 4 are locks. I think they like Obada's position flexibility so he stays on as a bottom of the roster guy.

LB (4) - Davis, Barton, Mayo, Hudson

Left out: no one of interest

- They only keep 4 because they don't plan on playing many sets with 3 linebackers on the field. This team wants to play a lot of defensive backs, or even sets with 5 dlineman. I would say all 4 of these linebackers are locks.

CB (7) - Fuller, St. Juste, Forbes, Johnson, Martin, Holmes, Castro-Fields

Left out: Wildgoose

- The top 5 are locks, and I'm counting Martin as a CB for now but he can play safety too. Holmes I think is pushing lock territory and Castro-Fields makes it after Wildgoose atrocious game vs the Ravens. If they want to keep another player on offense this is the spot you reduce down to 6. Also if the coaching staff thinks Wildgoose is much better at ST than Castro-Fields maybe he gets the nod cause of that, hard to predict ST value.

S (4) - Curl, Forrest, Butler, Reaves

Left out: no one of interest

- All four are locks, plus Martin and even Fuller have a lot of experience at Safety if the need arises.

Offense Total: 25

ST (3) Cheeseman, Way, Slye

Left out: no one of interest

- All locks.

I'm keeping Patterson over Williams - based his 78 yds vs Dallas, final game last year - and I love the kid's heart ! I'm keeping Danny Johnson over Castro Fileds or Holmes. I'm keeping Fromm- L O N G season gotta have 3 QBs . ( Maybe practice squad. risky. ) Gotta find someone to cut to keep him .  Maybe I go only 3 T Es. I don't like cutting Toohill, steady player - effort guy ..

I could see us keeping Fromm with the new QB rules, but he's probably still just a PS candidate, yes.

The new rule ( which was an old rule ) just applies to game day. He can be inactive and not count against the 45 roster but can be the emergency Q B . Still takes a roster spot though right . I'm a bit fuzzy on that .

Correct. Has to be on the 53, but does not have to be on the active.
