Daniel Jones money? That would classify as a deal in which the QB takes a high, but reasonable contract that still allows the team to space to retain other great players on the roster. Burrows contract is justifiable, but its likely he just opened the door and booted Tee Higgins off the airplane in the process. Not that Higgins is irreplicable, but the reason the Bengals offense is great is because of the amount of weapons they have. You turn it into the Burrow/Chase show and things might get bumpy. It's not Burrow's job to manage the salary cap for the Bengals, it's Bengals management*. They decided they were willing to pay Burrow knowing full well they won't be able to re-sign everyone else. Burrow didn't kick Higgins out the door or anything close to it. *If you really want to get big picture, it's Bengals ownership and ownership in general. They're the ones who advocate for a league wide salary cap.
BobbyPhil1781
Do we know how this is structured and how the cap hits will look on a per season basis? I guess there is still a way to assume it could be a team friendly deal as the market for QBs continues to go crazy in the upcoming years. I know w/ this amount of money being given, "team friendly" is certainly open to interpretation here.

The contract is the contract and the number is going to hit the books regardless of who pushed for the numbers. This is just talking about people questioning 'team friendly contracts' and the purpose of them (if they actually existed).

A lot of the language used either implies or directly states that it's the responsibility of the player to acquiesce to the team's salary cap needs or otherwise take them into consideration, and that's backwards. I think that's where a lot of the expectation that QBs have to announce the deal they got is actually team friendly (whether it is or not) comes from. 25 minutes ago, AkronsWitness said: Burrows contract is justifiable, but its likely he just opened the door and booted Tee Higgins off the airplane in the process. The bolded isn't what happened. The Bengals and Burrow negotiated, and the Bengals accepted that there would be cap causalities as a result. However, the absurd narrative that a bunch of Cincinnati fans spewed about him taking a team friendly deal/hometown discount deserves to be called out for what it was: absolute nonsense. Hand up, I was reposting the reports of him saying he'd take less $ to keep the team around him as well because that was during my "Lamar is asking for way too much $" phase. Turned out Lamar took less than what people said he was looking for and Burrow took more. Oopsie!
AFlaccoSeagulls
Joe Burrow: Entire resume is centered around a Superbowl loss and beating Mahomes twice Has the best WR's in the NFL High draft pick pedigree Worth $270M Jared Goff: Same resume as Burrow - has beaten Mahomes twice and also lost a Superbowl Does not have the best WR's in the NFL High draft pick pedigree Worth $27M And they had pretty identical stats last year, too. And you should have known that it was BS he was ever going to do that lol it's been proven over and over and over and over again these guys DO NOT take less, especially significantly less than what the previous guy did to set the market - they take more. I remember when I thought Russell Wilson would take less for his first contract as well. He had way more reason to take less than Burrow does.

THE DUKE
I was pretty solid on he would be receiving the largest contract in NFL history. Looks like I was right.

Continual growth, makes his team better, some playoff success, has toned down his turnovers, and thus far has been sacked a lot and had it attributed to bad OL play, so pending this year with a revamped OL, we will see if he makes that next step. He does hold onto the ball too long but some of that is the downfield scheme. My hot take is actually that while he’s really good and I love him, Josh Allen is overrated.

Hmmmm, makes you think! We have never seen Burrow with even average WRs. He always has superstars at WR. Even in college with Jefferson and Chase. I wonder if he is $55 mil per year good without them.
