J-ALL-DAY
I don't think we could have hoped for a better week 1 performance than the one we got in Pittsburgh. That was a Super Bowl caliber team handling business the way they should have. Surprised me as I expected a loss as we usually start out slow but the team was ready to go from the opening kickoff. On to Los Angeles...... The Rams looked very solid against the Seahawks as they usually do but Stafford in particular looked great. He made it work without Kupp and was throwing dimes all over the field. A few drops prevented him from having a 400+ yard game. The Rams also got great production from Williams on the ground as he was getting more time than Akers. Defensively, they still have Donald but I like how hard their young secondary plays. Still a work in progress but they compete and challenge everything. Offensively, we know what to do against this defense. The game plan is almost always going to be the same but Donald going up against Burford is a scary thought lol. McKivitz should be better since he will not have to go up against Watt this week but the right side of the line is going to be suspect all season long. I just hope we are able to get off to a quick start and don't need to risk Purdy getting killed by Donald. I'm expecting a big game from Deebo this week as he will have a lot of YAC opportunities and should be able to break one. CMC is a monster but there is no reason he should be getting 25 touches. Shanny needs to use Mitchell and Mason more. Kittle played but I thought he looked a bit gimpy and not all the way back. I don't think it would be a bad idea to give him a few weeks off to get healthier. We have enough without him. Looking forward to seeing how many targets Aiyuk gets and if Purdy/Shanny treat him like a prototypical #1 WR. Defensively, we have to take away the deep ball and get to Stafford to force him into some mistakes. He was far too comfortable against Seattle and was picking them apart in every single part of the field. Our run defense didn't really get tested last week since the Steelers had to go away from it after getting down 20-0, but the Rams will try to pound the ball with Williams and Akers. It should hold up fine but just want to see it. Bosa wasn't fully himself on Sunday but he should be better this game and should be able to get to Stafford a time or two. Can Drake Jackson build off his performance from last week and get to Stafford? Can he actually win some of his individual battles instead of getting hustle sacks? I think this is another game that Hufanga comes away with a INT. Also, does Thomas get time on the outside and Lenoir back to the slot? Or do they go with the 2nd half defense with Oliver in the slot? Something to pay attention to. Overall, while the Rams had a good performance against the Seahawks, they are not a SB contender while we are. They play hard and may be better than expected, but they are not better than us. 49ers 30 Rams 17

J-ALL-DAY
DVOA rankings from week 1: Offense - 7th Defense - 4th STs - 17th Overall - 5th Kind of surprised with the defensive ranking but then I remembered how dominant the Cowboys and Browns were...Jaguars are #3 but I didn't think they would be over us. Herodreamer79
Well, the biggest thing is we won't have Cooper Kupp to deal with. He was sort of the krypto in the NFCCG a couple years ago. As long as Purdy is as good about evading Aaron Donald as Jimmy G was we should be good. Stafford looks good though and I don't know what was up with Seattle. I've never seen them so... ordinary and blasé at home like that. I expected them to come out firing and it was just a dud. Hard to really gauge the rams after that performance. Stafford just kind of had his way with them. That and keeping Stafford on his a$$, are the two keys to winning.
Herodreamer79
I watched all the games back... Purdy, Tua and Stafford were easily the top 3 QBs this weekend. Edited September 12, 2023 by Herodreamer79
FrantikRam
we all know what will happen here. One thing noteworthy though is that of the last six regular season games, the Rams were favored in five of them. I think the Niners were favored by 1 in the game at SF last year. it's actually refreshing being a huge underdog in this game. Donald will do little. Niners will get a pick 6. Deebo will break a million tackles. and for the Rams, won't mean much in terms of our progress....kind of playing with house money here. The expectation is a 20+ point loss. You're supposed to talk a bunch of smack, man! You're doing it wrong. Rammy is going to be in here any day now talking a ton of smack, we are all prepared All I have is that Kyle would trade Sean all the regular season success for the one NFCCG. That's my only card to play here. In all seriousness though, in spite of myself, that destruction of Seattle has me cautiously optimistic about this game despite my best efforts. I take this **** way too seriously and I hate the 49ers probably more than every other NFL team combined. Losing to y'all usually takes me to an unhealthy place so I'm trying to set myself up for success here. But I'll give it a go... In theory (for what feels like the 18th straight game), Aaron Donald vs the Niners interior OL SHOULD be a mismatch. We will likely have our worst pass rusher be neutralized by Trent Williams, so IF we can get the Niners to third and long, that could be an advantage with our interior DL and Byron Young rushing on the other side. But the only time we've actually been able to capitalize on that advantage is when Von was here.....Donald is consistently frustrated by Shanahan's play calling/scheme, and then is somehow rendered largely ineffective when the Niners to drop back. It's probably the biggest mystery in these games. Our secondary played really well against good receivers on Sunday, but I'm always more concerned about the Niners abusing the middle of the field. Ernest Jones looks like he's going to be a star, so he will be our only hope. The other ILB - Rozeboom - got trucked by Kenneth Walker on Sunday in what was a prelude to what Deebo will do to him at least three times on Sunday. tldr for the Rams defense - we have to limit the run game if we want any chance of stopping the Niners from scoring 40 on Sunday and I have absolutely no idea how feasible that is. For the Rams offense - I had great hopes for this offensive line. Well for the team as a whole, as you are aware from some of my previous posts. But for the OL, Alaric Jackson has played REALLY well in the past at LT. He had a stellar game in pass pro last week, but this will obviously be a much more significant challenge. Avila is a beast at LG and Shelton is an average C. Noteboom is the concern at RG - he's played well at times but inconsistent. Havenstein is great at RT as usual. We are not going to be able to run the ball - it's going to come down to the OL and Stafford playing out of his mind again for us to be able to move the ball. I'm never afraid of the Niners CBs, and even with Kupp out I think if the OL holds up in pass pro we will have a chance to move the ball. But them holding up against that front is not likely. tldr for the Rams offense - we have to protect Stafford and once again, I have no idea if that's feasible. MIsc. - I mean....we're due here. A punt block or return? The ball slipping out of Purdy's hand or some other random happenstance? Something has to give. SOMETHING. One of those games where we have absolutely no business winning it but the ball bounces our way....some fumbles? You guys don't really need this one so maybe we will want it more? Eventually the streak of consecutive regular season losses has to end....especially before it gets to 17 again Edited September 13, 2023 by FrantikRam
Ftn49
Generally speaking if there is a consensus for a game going in especially where it concerns the niners and Shanahan it usually turns up opposite. There were so many people predicting that Pittsburgh was going to smoke us that I thought we'd win. This one we will probably have a consensus that we will take the Rams down so in George Costanza opposite world that obviously means we are going to lose, though close if we do. And Frantik is probably right, they are due. Rams 21 Niners 20

Rams 21 Niners 20 We are not the best at playing at home after a East Coast trip...and while this is technically not a home game, it is still in California. I can see this team having a slow start but this team is just prime and ready to go get a ring. They know the importance of the #1 seed and I think they will be ready. Stafford was amazing against the Seahawks but we have always done a solid job against him. The only game he really was a big problem was in the NFCCG and even then we had a shot at two or three INTs. This is a Deebo and CMC game.
