Week 3: San Francisco 49ers vs New York Giants

Since we are on a short week, I thought I would get this going today.

Honestly, not much needs to be said here. Just need to handle business and get the win. The Giants made a great comeback but they haven't been playing good ball in the first two weeks and Barkley is likely to miss the game with an ankle injury. I expect Aiyuk to miss the game for us but everyone else for the most part should be ready to go.

I just hope Shanny gives CMC a break and uses his other backs for once because this is not sustainable....like at all.

49ers 31

Giants 10

  • J-ALL-DAY changed the title to Week 3: San Francisco 49ers vs New York Giants

I'm going to guess both Aiyuk and Barkley are OUT for this game, which means more passes around the LoS for Deebo/Kittle and probably 40 rushing attempts. It would be great to see Mitchell get some touches this week.

I think we beat the Giants. They're so unimpressive to start the year. The Cardinals aren't better than expected, the Giants are just worse than expected.

saw this below online. Maybe explains recent accuracy issues 🏈

The Athletic has a great story just a couple of days ago about how the trainers have been working on Purdy's throwing stance.

https://theathletic.com/4864269/2023/09/16/brock-purdy-thighs-49ers/

They noticed that Purdy has very strong thighs, and this leads him to throw off his toes. But this also reduces his power. So they worked on helping him to throw using his hips rather than his legs. And it worked tremendously well. He was able to add 5 mph to his throwing velocity, which is huge. Usually this sort of adjustment only adds one or two mph.

So Purdy is throwing much harder. And that means his throws are going to tend to go further than he's been used to. That's why those big throws sailed. He's not used to having that much velocity.

The good part is that he'll get used to this, and his big throws will be much more accurate, and stronger. His whole game will get better. But we have to be patient as he adjusts. He's still learning lots of things, and the correct throwing stance is a huge one. So this is actually great news for his development as a QB.

This team needs to be 7-1 or 6-2 at worst before the bye week. The Browns game on the road after a tough battle against the Cowboys is not going to be easy at all but the next two games need to be wins. After we start or hopefully after we start 4-0, we can win three of the next four games. The Bengals on a short week is going to be difficult, especially if Burrow gets healthier and is back to form by then. There is a chance this team gets to 8-0, but that's probably unlikely.

This stat continues to amaze me. Brock Purdy on targets at the intermediate level (10-19 yards) in his NFL career including playoffs. 50-for-60 (83.3 comp%!!), 846 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT. No other QB since the beginning of 2022 is better than 67% (L. Jackson).

If he can sort of consistently get the deep throws right, boy oh boy.

If Watson keeps playing like this, the Browns might not be as hard as I thought at the beginning of the season, especially with Chubb out(no such thing as an easy game in the NFL of course, but they seem pretty similar to the Steelers to me right now). In my opinion they should be favored in all of their games up to the bye, but I'll take 7-1, and 6-2 is acceptable as long as the Cowboys and Eagles are doing about the same or worse. Absolutely do not want to lose to teams like the Giants or Cards, one of our chief rivals for HFA in the Cowboys, or to Deshaun Watson.

Had briefly considered this, and if true, this is making me smile SO freaking much.

I just don't want his "pocket chill" to crush his durability. This is my greatest concern of the offense, and our SB6 dream.

The biggest thing I will be looking at is, can we contain mobile qbs! This will be the first test of containing a mobile qb. Especially with a Barkley out, we know they will heavily depend on Jones’ scrambling.

Rest Aiyuk because this isn’t a game where we should depend on him. Granted short week, but get Bell comfortable. I know Aiyuk will push to want to play, but we will need him later in the year. Also, let’s start to get Mitchell some touches because CMC is getting EVERYTHING and we will need him later in the year as well. Kyle has already mentioned they will need to sprinkle Mitchell more and admitting he needs to monitor. I can see a 60/40 split favoring Mitchell due to the short wk and CMC playing all downs vs Rams.

By the way, is Kyle maturing or actually noticing these small things and setting his ego aside?! Love it!
