At what point do we stop blaming the coaching and start blaming the actual defensive players?

Theyre......not.......that........good.  It's not the coordinators, its not the coaching.  This has been going on over a decade.  We cannot draft defensive players.  We overrate our defensive players.  They bite on just about everything that isnt vanilla defense.  There are maybe 2-3 pieces on defense that are worth a damn.  Maybe.  The rest......overrated.  Our obsession with drafting defense early has been an abysmal failure.  This is a decade of failure coming to roost, and Rodgers coverd a lot of that disastrous drafting.  Now we see what it looks like without Rodgers.

Yeah, Alexander, Gary, Clark, Campbell, Walker, Douglas…

None of them have had elite seasons.

You are definitely not a dumb idiot.

Not one, not two, but three defensive coordinators.  This is the equivalent of soccer teams going through managers in the premier league with their fans automatically blaming the managers and not the players.  This is literally why Chelsea are where they are right now.   Because they never looked in the locker room at the players.  At some point it becomes......ya know........stupid to keep blaming managers when the exact same thing happens over, and over, and over again.

You're not an idiot.

You're not stupid AF for thinking Alexander, Gary and Clark aren't among the best in the NFL at their positions.

You're not a moron.

You're clearly the kind of guy whose kitchen staff are clearly awful, you fire the manager once........then they still suck.......you fire the manager again........and they STILL suck, and you fire the third manager.  And yet continue to never realize that Gordon Ramsey couldnt save this kitchen.

Let's look at the prolific career of Joe Barry.

Linebacker coach.
Linebacker coach.
Quality control coach.
Linebacker coach.
Defensive coordinator

The 2007 Lions become the worst defense in the NFL in points allowed.

The next year, since the Lions didn't fire Barry, the Lions are once again the worst defense in the NFL.

They win zero games. The third worst defense in NFL history.

Linebacker coach.
Linebacker coach (in college since he can't get a job in the NFL).
Linebacker coach.

So if you think that a coach who coached the third worst defense in NFL history might not be a had coach, you're definitely not an idiot.

We had starters on D that didn't play last night.  I think we have enough talent but I along with most here are not to keen on our DC.  And I am frustrated with MLF for not recognizing this.

Oh, there is enough blame to go around. Most of the time since Barry has been here he has not put his defense in a position to win. In fact, he's put them primarily in a position to lose. Especially against the run.

I honestly don't know how anybody in our front office or the HC could look at this guys resume and think he was the guy. Mind boggling.

You know I think I now agree with this sentiment.

Preston Smith couldn’t even guard Davante Adams.

Our coordinator is putting players in the position to succeed.

So thankful we got to see the great free agent cornerback Preston Smith try to cover Davante Adams.

At some point you do have to agree with this notion.

Maxx Crosby and the unknowns kicked our *** last night.

We really don't have anything special at all on offense outside of Aaron Jones.

Defense to a casual fan our best player is Rudy Ford or Rashan Gary. Tho Id argue Walker.

Jaire,  Rasul, Campbell, have all taken a step back so far this year. Clark is a good DT not a great one.

I think it's fair to think we may have overrated our players.

How good is Preston Smith at guarding the best receiver in football?
