I like Wilkins a whole bunch but I don’t think he’s $20M+ better than 2nd half of 2023 Gervon Dexter as a starting 3T. I wouldn’t be mad at all, but I think 2nd half of the year Dexter was exactly what Flus is looking for out of that position and he costs basically nothing for 3 more years. Having quality starters like that is what allows you to pay other guys top of market deals.
CBears019
Does the madabuike deal (4 yr/$98m/$75.5gtd) set the bar for Wilkins next week? Genuinely asking.

I still think when you can add an elite UT to this defence it makes everyone better...Dexter was really good in the 2nd half of last year but being able to rotate these guys as well as play them next to each other on some downs just makes a ton of sense IMO.

Is Wilkins elite though, or did he just have an elite contract year? First 4 years: 11.5 total sacks, 27 total QB hits Contract gear: 9.0 sacks, 23 QB hits Year 1-4 Wilkins is a nice, above average starter who’s worth about half of the Madubuike deal. Year 5 is worth the same money. Which guy are you getting? Doesn’t it worry you at least a little bit that 2023 was such a statistical outlier for him? Personally if we’re gonna go top of market money on the DL I’m doing it for Danielle Hunter. Despite having played 3 more NFL seasons he’s only a year older than Wilkins, but he has a LONG track record of top tier play. He had a huge 2023, but he’s also had 12+ sacks 3 other times and 10.5 in another season.

The Bears are setting up for a deep run into the playoff, I would say a playoff is the minimum... for this year.

I think your only looking at his sack stats and not his overall game...there is no doubt Wilkins is a top 5-8 DT in the league and that is only on the field...as a leader he would add just as much if not more to this defence...Now I doubt we sign him and probably go DE instead but like I said adding a player like him is something you can't go wrong with. I’m certainly not saying adding him would be a bad thing. Even if he’s just the average pass rushing DT he was years 1-4 instead of the pass rushing dynamo he was last year he’s a really strong player. To be a $25M guy to me though he’s gotta stay that dominant pass rusher too, and I am at least somewhat skeptical that he will.
SLCbear
With Mike Evans off the market, we need to go hard for Wilkins or Hunter. Either is a multiplier. Wilkins comes wo any real injury history but is less proven, Hunter has some injury/durability issues (minor) but HELLA-proven and a division rival ! Either is worth 20-25 Leonard Williams could be a very nice consolation prize, but I cannot imagine Seattle letting him leave after all they gave up for him Plenty of FS options !! Geno is my favorite Wilkins or Hunter and Stone would be a helluva FA Edited March 9 by SLCbear
Madmike90
As I look at the offensive FA's I think we come away with on of the top RBs...either Barkley or Jacobs both of whom would be great safety blankets for Caleb with their ability out of the back field as pass catchers but after that one guy that really interests me is Mike Gesicki at TE...I think most people through when he went to NE he would really take off and it never really happened but in terms of a skill set he could really fit what Waldron does with multiple TE sets...he is a bit more of that "F" type of TE than Kmet is but still has the size to do some inline stuff...he could be another really easy target for Caleb early on given his size, length & athleticism and may stop us having to overpay for a WR... If we came away with... Starters RB Saquan Barkley TE Mike Gesicki (with Kmet of course) Maybe C Andrea James depending on the plans for Ryan Bates Backups/Rotation QB Tyrod Taylor WR Quez Watkins OT Josh Jones Defensively I think we might stay away from the very top end of the market just because there is a lot of depth...would love to double up on the DL with either a DT & DE or two DEs... Starters DE Bryce Huff/Leonard Floyd (3rd down specialist) DE Emmanuel Ogbah (high rotation with Walker) S Kam Curl Backups/Rotation DT A'Shawn Robinson S Tracey Walker I think this would allow us to spread out money around while keeping plenty of cap space if an opportunity comes up to land an elite player via trade...for example use Carolina's 2nd round pick next year to grab someone like we did Sweat last year. Resume is definitely strong though both in that he’s an obvious ball hawk and that he’s been incredibly durable (1 missed game the past 7 seasons). I’m for it.
